Mayor's Press & Community Briefing: Next Thursday, February 27 The first in a series, hear about updates and progress advancing Council Priorities at an upcoming briefing hosted by Mayor Ed Lauing. Participate in person at the Rinconada Library, Embarcadero Room or watch live on YouTube. The briefing is intended for community members and press, offering an informal setting to ask questions and track progress on community topics of interest. 5 Ways to Join the Cubberley Conversation The future of Cubberley is taking shape, and your voice is essential in the conversation. As we explore reimagining this important community space, we invite the community to share your ideas and be engaged. Find 5 ways you can be part of the conversation and share with your neighbors and friends! Be Well Quit Tobacco for Heart Health: Smoking tobacco and nicotine products are a leading cause of heart and blood diseases including heart attack, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. Even knowing this, it’s difficult to quit, and you can do it. Get help to quit smoking and reduce your risk for disease, regardless of how much you’ve smoked. Don’t forget to reward yourself as you reach milestones and forgive yourself for steps backward. Phone-Free February: We get it, you might be reading our newsletter on your phone right now! Setting your phone aside can help your mental health, prevent doom-scrolling, and support connecting with people in real life. Check out more about this new challenge and find ways to connect with neighbors at events like 3rd Thursdays on Cal Ave. Recipe of the Week: Fill your belly with this Buddah Bowl recipe, packed with heart-healthy ingredients like broccoli and kale—use up other healthy veggies in your fridge to support food waste reduction. Family Resources Brazilian Movie Screening: Watch Azougue Nazaré, a film about a Afro-Brazilian spiritual leader and a city that witnesses mysterious and supernatural events on Saturday, February 22 at 3 p.m. at Rinconada Library. Master Gardeners – Love Your Santa Clara County Clay: Learn how to use clay soil for vegetable beds, fruit trees, or ornamental plants in your home garden. During a workshop on Sunday, February 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Rinconada Library, healthy soil ecosystems, digging techniques, fertilizers, cover crops and mulches will be discussed. Inclusive Resource Fair: Explore afterschool activities and summer camps designed to support students with disabilities at a resource fair on Wednesday, February 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Program providers can support children with special needs through inclusive environments, specialized programs, or individualized accommodations. Know Your Rights for the Immigrant Community: Inform yourself and your loved ones by attending a workshop hosted by the Palo Alto Human Relations Commission on Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Learn about your rights during interactions with ICE, how to make a family safety plan presentation, library resources for immigrants and English language learners, and ask immigration attorneys general questions. Translation will be available via Wordly. Plus, read Palo Alto Police Chief Binder’s latest update on how local police interact with immigration officials. Palo Alto Puzzle Hunt Continues: Through February, have fun hunting and solving puzzles in the 4th Annual Puzzle Hunt! Get weekly puzzles that will take you to locations throughout the city and get the chance to win prizes. The Puzzle Hunt runs through Friday, February 28.
