  Mayor's Update     Hello neighbor! Did you see the recent article from Mountain View Voice? Our very own playground at the Library|Parks & Recreation Center was the first one highlighted in their article about premier playgrounds in the Peninsula. Speaking of playgrounds, a whole new park is in the works at Linden and Pine in Old Town South San Francisco, and we want YOUR input! Look for us at Concert in the Park on September 21, or join us for an Old Town Merchants’ Round Table on September 27, and the Centennial Way Park South Ribbon Cutting on September 29. The Online Survey will be on the project website through the end of the month. Check out the summaries of our recent engagement activities and for other updates.   How We're Prepping for Linden Park Prior to planning for the park, we conducted an extensive environmental investigation to meet regulatory requirements, and out of an abundance of caution to ensure that the land is safe for a park. To learn more about this project, click here.   City Council Recap Nelly’s Bridal Boutique of South City recently made headlines after Nelly Santana, the owner of the bridal shop, helped save a bride’s wedding day after her original dress was lost by another business. We recognized Nelly for her generous donation and for being an inspiration to our community. We also celebrated the Garden Club’s 60th Anniversary with a Certificate of Recognition. We’re recognizing September as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. If you or a loved one needs support, please call or text 988 or contacting National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). We’re also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 - October 15, 2024. We’re observing the 237th Anniversary of the United States Constitution during the week of September 17 - 23, 2024. We also had a couple of presentations by Cal Water on their Residential Water Rate Restructure and from Caltrain on electrification and more. Watch the Replay   Free Scam Stopper Seminars Earlier today, Vice Mayor Eddie Flores hosted the first free Scam Stopper Seminar at the Rotary Terrace with the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). We still have one more opportunity for you to get equipped with practical knowledge and tools to safeguard yourself and our community from these deceptive schemes. Whether through the lens of heritage, abstract symbolism, or personal stories, what does "roots" mean to you? Eligible mediums include two-dimensional and three-dimensional art works. The non-refundable online art entry fee is $5 per entry. This juried exhibit is open to local and regional residents, 16 years and older. Learn More   Feeding Ozzy As summer transitions to fall, Ozzy the Organics Cart experiences a subtle change in diet. There is an increase in dead leaves and a decrease in grass clippings. But disposable items like cups, utensils, and packaging that are made from corn, cornstarch, or polylactic acid (PLA) belong in the grey garbage cart. Food or beverage soiled paper cups, plates, and takeout containers that have a thin lining made from corn, cornstarch, or PLA and labeled “certified compostable” are an exception and can go in your green cart. Disposable paper items that are lined with polyethylene (PE) cannot be composted. Please place those in your grey garbage cart. Unsure about what belongs in your green cart?
