  Mayor's Update     Hello Neighbor! Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month with Storytime and Boba In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, how about some boba? Join us at the Library on May 25th for storytelling, drawing, and boba with author Nidhi Chanani, author and illustrator of Quiet Karisma and Super Boba Café. Come earlier for Cantonese and Filipino Storytime, and check out more fun events happening all month long celebrating AAPI heritage. Thank you for keeping our communities safe, and helping make our city one to be proud of. This is also a time to honor our fallen police officers and to support the ones they left behind. We thank you for your sacrifice.   Celebrating National Public Works Week As we celebrate National Public Works Week, let’s recognize and celebrate the dedicated people of Public Works who manage operations in transportation, wastewater, stormwater, emergency management and first response, manage solid waste, right-of-way maintenance, and provide engineering services. We are grateful for all they do to improve quality of life for everyone here in South San Francisco!   UPCOMING SSF & LOCAL EVENTS   South City Pride San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, drag performances, and a roller-skating rink. Learn More   Aquatics Summer 2024 Registration Dates Mark your calendars to register for Session 1 Aquatics classes. Resident registration begins on Wednesday, May 22 for classes beginning on Monday, June 10. To register, visit www.ssf.net/rec-catalog and click on the “Aquatics” tab.   Apply for a Cultural Activities Grant by May 24 Don’t forget to apply for our Cultural Activities Grant Program by May 24! Open to all community organizations and artists who wish to offer free or low-cost events and activities that will expose our community to cultural and recreational activities and programming.   New Opportunity for Artists Artists are invited to submit entries that explore the pinnacle of human experience through diverse mediums and perspectives, celebrating the boundless spirit of summertime and June celebrations. Eligible mediums include two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and mixed media art works. Participation is open to local and regional residents, 15 years and older. The non-refundable online art entry fee is $5.00 per entry. This is a juried exhibit. Click below to learn more and enter. Learn More   COMMUNITY RESOURCES Upcoming BART Weekend Track Closure Starting at 9 pm on Friday, May 31, and continuing until the early hours of Monday, June 3, BART will replace aging rail, enhance lighting in BART tunnels, and remove hazardous vegetation between Glen Park and Daly City stations. The benefits of this work will translate to a smoother, safer, quieter and more reliable experience for our customers. There will be no train service between 24th Street and Daly City stations the weekend of June 1-2. BART will operate a free bus bridge during the weekend construction. Free buses provided by MUNI and SamTrans will move riders between 24th Street and Daly City stations. Riders can expect delays of up to 30 minutes. The Glen Park and Balboa Park stations will be closed except for bus service. Learn More   Peninsula Family Service Got Wheels! Join the free membership program, and schedule rides on-demand 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Each month, participants are able to take up to six one-way trips or three round trips for only $5.00 per one-way ride within the Daly City, Colma, Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Half Moon Bay, Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada.
