Waste Collection Service Alert, Waste Bins [ https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1401/1067 ]
Waste Collection Service Alert

As the current service disruption from Republic Services continues—stemming from a work stoppage by local drivers in solidarity with Teamster drivers striking in other U.S. cities—the City is urging Republic Services to restore full service to the Fremont community and have its local employees return to work. This remains a top priority, as we understand the current situation is creating unnecessary public health impacts.

Beginning today, Friday, July 11, Republic Services will be restoring most residential collection in Fremont starting in the afternoon. Substitute drivers will be working through the service backlog and operating throughout this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, starting with customers whose collection day was on Tuesday of this week.

For Tuesday and Wednesday customers (single family residents) in Fremont, please place your black trash carts out for collection on this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. The priority is getting the trash/garbage collected and off the street. This *_map [ https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1oqOOxTYV91vTS50DG3KunZUbgEdf2nc&ll=37.52633807156628%2C-121.97685595&z=12 ]_ *shows local neighborhoods and customers can look up their scheduled pick-up day on _*Republic Services’ website* [ https://www.republicservices.com/schedule ]_. Republic Services will be collecting the recycling and green waste carts separately, as the company normally does, and that may take a few extra days.

As the City pursues available remedies and contractual obligations—we invite our community to join us in preserving the health, safety, and livability of our neighborhoods.

* Limit waste generation where possible—avoid disposable items, flatten cardboard and excess packaging.
* Compost food scraps. This reduces odor and volume in your trash.
* Secure trash bags tightly and store them in covered bins or containers to prevent pests and odors. Consider double or triple-bagging potentially smelly items such as pet waste. Reuse old plastic bags you may have on hand.
* Choose products with less packaging. Consider purchasing products in bulk, if you know you will use up the entire contents.

Additionally, Fremont residents and businesses, with proof of residency/business, may continue to utilize free drop-off disposal services for garbage, recycling, and yardwaste at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station, 41149 Boyce Rd. in Fremont.  For hours of operation visit their *_website [ https://links-1.govdelivery.com/CL0/http:%2F%2Fwww.fremont-recycling.com%2F/1/01000197fa41b320-9415536b-2e05-441b-a381-8fab86f56727-000000/j70P0LuAqlaDyuABCw3nlOiuT66MUS2iRDIvmtfzAmE=413 ]_**.*

For billing questions during this service disruption, residents and businesses should contact Republic Services for assistance at 510-657-3500 or visit their *_website [ https://links-1.govdelivery.com/CL0/http:%2F%2Fwww.republicservices.com%2Fmunicipality%2Ffremont-ca/2/01000197fa41b320-9415536b-2e05-441b-a381-8fab86f56727-000000/0cXUiDv5QNeuLzq0c6zgSjBLUE1sPTZTEKjeHnVLAPQ=413 ]_**. *

The City will continue to provide timely updates as new information becomes available. We appreciate the community’s patience during this time.

Fremont PD Issues Scam Alert [ http://fremont.gov/about/department-directory ]
Beware of Phone Scams Impersonating City Staff and Law Enforcement

We want to alert our community that the City has become aware of two different phone scams impersonating local law enforcement and City of Fremont staff and we suspect there could be others that haven’t been reported. It’s important for residents and businesses to know the City will never call to demand personal or financial information, issue threats, or request payments over the phone.

Several residents have reported receiving calls from numbers displaying “Fremont PD” and “County of Alameda” on caller ID. The scam callers are falsely claiming to be law enforcement officials, calling about “serious immigration issues” that need to be resolved immediately.

Other residents have reported receiving calls asking for permit payments over the phone while citing publicly available permit information on a permitting portal.

These incidents are concerning and unfortunately, not uncommon. Please remember:

Don’t rely on caller ID as scammers can manipulate caller ID displays.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately.

You can report scam calls to the Federal Trade Commission at *reportfraud.ftc.gov. [ https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ ]*

Contact the City by visiting the Department Directory on the City’s website for any questions concerning your permit: *fremont.gov/about/department-directory [ http://fremont.gov/about/department-directory ]*

Lake Elizabeth’s New Water Quality Measures
Lake Elizabeth’s New Water Quality Measures

Have you visited Lake Elizabeth recently and noticed some changes? Our beautiful lake in Central Park has some exciting new features as part of the City’s Lake Elizabeth Water Quality Improvement Pilot Project. These features are designed to help protect the lake’s wildlife and make it healthier and more resilient, especially during those hot summer days.

Visitors to Lake Elizabeth will now spot these measures on the lake’s surface:

* Nine vegetated floating islands: These aren’t just pretty; they will create vital shaded shelters for fish and provide new habitats for both aquatic and land-based organisms.
* A small fountain and two aerators: These will work together to help stabilize the water temperature, keep the water oxygenated, and improve water circulation to prevent algae growth.

In addition, three monitoring probes have been installed to collect important data. This data will help us understand how effective these new measures are in keeping the lake’s temperature and oxygen levels stable.

These measures, costing approximately $175,000, are designed to reduce the likelihood of fish die-off events occurring during extreme heat, like the one that occurred in July 2024. If successful, the City may consider these measures for other sections of the lake.

Lake Elizabeth, an 83-acre freshwater lake within Fremont’s Central Park, serves an important dual purpose: it’s designed for flood control and stormwater storage, and it’s also a beloved recreational hub for our community. The lake is owned by the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (ACFCD) and licensed to the City of Fremont.

With these measures, our goal is for Lake Elizabeth to remain a healthy haven for wildlife and a place our community can enjoy for years to come. We will continue to provide updates on how the measures are working.

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Score a Rebate on a New E-Bike!

We know electric bikes are gaining popularity in our community, so we’re excited to share this opportunity from Fremont’s electricity provider, Ava Community Energy (Ava). Through their new Ava Bike Electric Program, eligible residents of Alameda and San Joaquin counties can enter a random drawing for a chance to save $400 to $1,500 on a new e-bike.

E-bikes offer tremendous benefits for you and your community: reduced car dependency, improved air quality, better health outcomes, and a fun and flexible way to get around. This program helps remove the biggest barrier to e-bike adoption—cost.

Once you apply and are deemed eligible, you’ll be entered into monthly random drawings for a chance to receive an instant rebate. Drawings will be held every month until September 2026.

Rebates range from $400 to $1,500 depending on bike type and income qualification. Drawing winners from income-qualified households enrolled in electricity reduction programs like CARE, FERA, or EAP can also receive an additional $250 rebate for safety equipment.

Two Fremont bike shops are participating in the program and accepting the rebates: CentriPEDAL Bikes and The Bicycle Garage. This makes it easy to shop and allows you to support local businesses!
