*Council Adopts FY 2024-25 City Budget*

Budget Cover 2024_25

On Tuesday, June 25, the Mountain View City Council adopted the City budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25. The Council also approved funding for Fiscal Year 2024-25 Capital Improvement Projects.

The FY 2024-25 Adopted Budget is structurally balanced and allocates resources toward long-term service delivery, Council Strategic Priority areas, continuous organizational improvement efforts, and innovative programs important to the Mountain View community.

The Adopted Budget also includes the costs associated with approved labor agreements for International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), Police Officers Association (POA), EAGLES, Services Employees International Union (SEIU), unrepresented employees and hourly employees.

Although the budget is stable for the upcoming fiscal year, revenues are not growing at the pace the City of Mountain View has experienced in prior fiscal years, and there remains a great deal of economic uncertainty on the horizon. As a result, deficits ranging from $1.4 million to $4.4 million are projected from FY 2025-26 through FY 2028-29. The City’s new fiscal year begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2025.

*City Revenue Measure to Appear on
November 2024 Ballot*

Also at the June 25 meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to place a revenue measure on the November 2024 ballot.

The ballot measure would amend the City of Mountain View’s existing Real Property Conveyance Tax Ordinance. If approved by Mountain View voters, the amendment would increase the tax for residential and commercial property sales above $6 million to $15 per $1,000.

The proposed change would generate about $9,500,000 in locally controlled funding and be subject to independent audits. A simple majority vote – 50% of voters plus one additional voter – is required for approval of a general tax like this one.

If you would like to share your ideas on what priorities the potential new revenues could be directed toward, email the City Manager’s Office at City.Mgr@mountainview.gov.
