A walk audit is a collaborative process that identifies ways to make walking and biking safer and more accessible for students and families. As a former school board member, I know how important these walk-audits are for our school communities and our scholars. We have collaborated and partnered with our school district to complete many of our schools and I am so excited that now it is Westborough Middle Schools turn. After many years of trying to get one to this location, it is finally happening! Facilitated by Alta Planning + Design, a firm specializing in active transportation, the audit will bring together school staff, city officials, and community members to assess traffic safety, walkability, and bikeability around the school. Come ready to share your concerns, put some steps in and also suggest improvements, and help shape a safer environment for all around the school vicinity. Your input matters! RSVP Here   🎉An Exciting Opportunity for Local Entrepreneurs! Brand new program to support our local business owners in the heart of our downtown. Along with my colleagues on city council and city staff, I am incredibly excited to introduce a new innovative supportive program that is near and dear to me, as a strong supporter of our local businesses. Allow me to introduce, Launch Local! Our brand-new Vacant Retail Activation Pilot Program designed to activate vacant storefronts by providing emerging businesses with short-term leases and financial support to transform these spaces. Through this initiative, we aim to reduce store front vacancies, increase foot traffic, and create vibrant, dynamic commercial corridors that benefit the entire community. Our goal is to have participating businesses open their doors by the end of 2025! 🥳 Priority will be given to graduates of the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center programs, located at the Economic Advancement Center (EAC) at 366 Grand Avenue. The EAC provides resources and support to help small businesses thrive. To learn more about Launch Local! and stay updated on the program’s progress, visit www.ssf.net/retail. For more information about the Economic Advancement Center and its services, visit www.ssf.net/eac.   New Episode on our South San Francisco Podcast: Honoring Local Veterans🫡 Our South San Francisco Podcast has a brand-new episode, this time featuring one of our local heroes, Pat Rosenthal, a U.S. Navy Veteran and Training Specialist at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Tune in on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or watch the interview on YouTube to learn more about how he’s supporting fellow Veterans, including the development of our new Veteran’s Memorial to honor our fallen heroes and veterans.
