Japanese Sword Study Group

Would you like to study Japanese swords with us ??

We have been conducting Japanese Sword study and research sessions at the Japanese Martial Arts Training Association and Dojo of Swordsmanship and Test Cutting in San Francisco ) since the fall of 1980, for over 45 years. Currently, there are more than 175 kuchi ( furis ) of Japanese swords on display for study. There are many swords, including the Daitachi, Tachi, Koutachi, Katana, Uchi-tachi, Wakizashi, Tanto, Yari, Naginata, and Shikimitsuke. Tsubas and props are also on display. Kougai, kogara, mahari, menuki, enkashira, etc.

All of the swords on display are for sale, but are used as study tools for members of the Japanese Sword Society, students of swordsmanship and Japanese sword repair, and apprentices of the Japanese Martial Arts Training Association. We display many excellent swords, bargains, rare swords, strange swords, rare spears, and Japanese swords from feudal lords' families. We are proud to present detailed annotations, explanations, and lectures on Japanese swords that are National Treasures, Important Cultural Properties, and Important Art Objects on the third Sunday of each month.

To prevent any danger to the beginner, we teach immediately how to handle and care for Japanese swords. The number of participants in our study group is always between 5 and 7. Printed copies of study materials are also provided. We have over 2,000 books on Japanese swords written in Japanese. Copies of these books are always available.
