The City issued an update noting initial reports were that there did not appear to be immediate safety concerns or threats to Palo Alto and no evacuations were necessary. The warning was lifted shortly after our initial update. Baylands Nature Preserve was closed as a precaution for a short time. No impacts to City operations were reported from the earthquake. A few resources to track earthquakes and tsunami warnings: USGS Latest Earthquakes, US Tsunami Warning Centers and National Weather Service. In October, a City update marked the 35th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake by sharing earthquake preparedness reminders and resources. Your individual planning for emergencies helps support community health and safety. Reminders: Please do not call 9-1-1 unless it's an emergency. Should there be a need to evacuate, the City would issue an emergency alert and share that same alert on its official website at www.cityofpaloalto.org, via social media, and may also send a Nixle alert or emergency edition of Uplift Local eNewsletter. Stay informed and sign up for the City’s emergency alert system. Be prepared for emergencies. Check on your neighbors. Emergency Alert System Test Speaking of emergencies, the City will conduct a test of its emergency alert system on Thursday, December 12 at noon. The test seeks to build community awareness of the City’s emergency alert system, as less than one third of Palo Alto residents are currently registered to receive emergency notifications. The effort also ensures residents who have registered are receiving the emergency notifications as defined though their account settings. Sign up to receive emergency alerts at www.alertscc.com.
