Email from City of South San Francisco     View the complete newsletter on the web   Hello, South San Francisco Community! I hope you feel just as proud as I do to call yourself a South San Franciscan or South Citian? In any case, we are one proud South City with a strong legacy - culturally rich with all the great things that continue to happen in our city. There’s never a shortage of events or milestones that celebrate our community, our beautiful cultures, or even new businesses serving our neighborhoods. There’s so much to be proud of, and it’s all because of how we come together as a community to make us South City Proud and a great place to live, work, play, learn, or worship!   🚨SSFPD Shares 2024 Crime Statistics Highlighting a Reduction in Crime!🚔 Our hard-working Police Department recently shared their most recent data highlighting a significant reduction in crime, highlighting our city’s ongoing commitment to public safety. Check this out: Between 2022 and 2024, stolen vehicle incidents fell by 19%, commercial burglaries by 46%, and catalytic converter thefts by an impressive 88%. Robberies, residential burglaries, and vehicle break-ins also saw notable declines. SSFPD credits these significant improvements in our safety to the strong work myself and members of our city council have done in supporting implementation of advanced cameras technology, proactive community policing, and strong community partnerships and collaborations. Traffic safety is also on the rise, and that is a good thing! With pedestrian and cyclist collisions down 37%. Please join me and Police Chief Scott Campbell in commending the hard work of our brave and dedicated officers and staff in our department as well as to our residents in making South San Francisco safer! We are a SAFE city and very proud to be able to share this wonderful news with all of you. Read the full press release to learn more!   Another successful “Cafecito” this past Saturday with Vice Mayor Addiego I always enjoy getting to meet with you at any event, but my signature community building events, aka “Cafecito with Mayor Eddie” have proven to be very successful and a wonderful way to spend more time getting to hear your stories and ideas and building community. More than 25 of you came to enjoy coffee with me and Vice Mayor Mark Addiego at the Starbucks on McLellan Drive in District 1, and it was time well spent. It’s also great to see not just residents of District 1, but all South City friends and neighbors stop by. Thank you to the many who spent your morning with us, and for sharing a coffee ☕️ with me. Remember everyone is invited, and please stay tuned for more of these in the coming months.   Celebrating our Sisterhood with Kishiwada at San Francisco’s Japantown! It was an honor to join the ribbon-cutting for Japantenna the new Cultural District Visitor Center in San Francisco’s historic Japantown, celebrating the Sister City relationships between Izumisano and Daly City, and Kishiwada and South San Francisco. As Mayor of South San Francisco, I’m proud to highlight our strong bond with Kishiwada, Japan—a relationship built on cultural exchange, shared values, and mutual respect. Events like this foster international understanding and bring our communities closer, proving that distance does not define our connections. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. It was great being joined by Vice Mayor Mark Addiego and members of our SSF Sisters City Association. I invite you to visit this wonderful center, and let’s continue to celebrate our friendship and strong ties! To learn more about South San Francisco’s five sister cities, check out our website.     A Colorful Holi Event! 🌈 I had the incredible honor of opening up our City’s first ever Holi Festival Celebration at the Library | Parks & Recreation Center. More than 100 of our community came to enjoy wonderful performances by the Recreation Division’s Hindi Language and Introduction to Indian Culture classes. The music, the dances, and the opportunity to “color” our faces with traditional colored powders was memorable and a true delight. Thank you to Councilmember Flor Nicolas (District 3) for joining us and to my fellow councilmember Mark Nagales, (District 2) for bringing the idea of this event to our city, and to all the staff and volunteers who helped bring it to life and help organize. It was great to welcome so many visitors from outside our city! Thank you also to our local sponsor, Curry Pizza House for their contribution of their delicious pizza. If you missed out on this event, I highly recommend giving them a visit at 415 Grand Avenue.
