* The Friends of the Mountain View Library Book Sale [ https://mvlibraryfriends.org/book-sales/ ] will take place August 10-11. The sale will be in the bookmobile garage along Mercy Street in the driveway next to the Library's underground parking lot.

* 9:30-10:30 a.m. Members-only Sale.
* 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. General Sale.

* Sunday, August 11:
* 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Bag Sale.


* The Library will be closed on Monday, September 2 in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3.





Summer Reading Recap





Sean's Music Factory




Thanks to all who joined us for another great year of Summer Reading. A total of 1,783 people registered, including 1,049 children, 170 teens and 564 adults. We hope you enjoyed this year's reading challenge, prizes, events and festivities. Don't forget to pick up your prizes at the Children's Room or second floor desks.

Help us say goodbye to summer at the End of Summer Dance Party in Pioneer Park on Thursday, August 8 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12843082 ]! The Library DJ will play both popular and seasonal songs to get everyone moving and shaking. This event is for families with kids of all ages.

It's almost time to go back to school. The Library has many free resources available to help support children and teens during their studies. 


* With a library card, students can access free learning resources [ https://library.mountainview.gov/learn/children-and-teens/children-teen-learning-resources ] on a wide range of subjects including primary resources and interactive materials.
* Brainfuse HelpNow [ https://landing.brainfuse.com/index.asp?u=main.mountainviewpubliclibrary.calibrarylegacyhn.ca.brainfuse.com ] provides live tutoring assistance for grades K through 12, expert writing analysis and access to collaboration and study tools.
* Children can develop their reading skills by checking out a book from our recommended reading lists [ https://library.mountainview.gov/learn/children-and-teens/booklists ] based on age level, genre, read-alikes and more.
* Bring your group on a field trip to the Library! We welcome preschool through high school classes and other children’s groups for storytimes, library tours [ https://library.mountainview.gov/visit/children-and-teen/request-a-class-visit ] or focused library instruction.
* High school students have free access to all library digital resources, including research databases, eBooks and streaming services, through their Student Connect Card [ https://library.mountainview.gov/learn/children-and-teens/student-connect-card ]. Students can also use their card to reserve group study rooms. Schools currently enrolled in the Student Connect Card program include Mountain View High School, Los Altos High School, Saint Francis High School and Alta Vista High School. 
* The bookmobile [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/calendar/bookmobile/?cid=8985&t=m&d=0000-00-00&cal=8985&inc=0 ] will visit all elementary schools in Mountain View on a rotational basis, providing a convenient opportunity to ask our staff questions, browse for books and pick up holds.
* Need more in-depth help? Students are welcome to visit the Library and receive support from our experienced staff.

* Thursday, August 15 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12575232 ]: Join us for an ancient history talk with Yale professor Eckart Frahm as he discusses his fascinating new book, "Assyria: The Rise and Fall of the World's First Empire [ https://catalog.mountainview.gov/Record/.b34645767 ]". Learn about the Assyrians' vast libraries and monumental sculptures, elaborate trade and information networks, and the crucial role played by royal women.
* Saturday, August 17 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12267348 ]*: Come to a captivating concert with guitarist Bowen Zheng and clarinetist Renzo DeCarlo. Their performance will feature music from Argentina, Brazil, Italy and Portugal that will enamor audiences.
* Tuesday, August 20 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12547461 ]: This Parents Zoom at Noon event will feature special guest Elizabeth Slocum, MPH and specialist with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, as she discusses how to identify edible products with intoxicating chemicals, how these products are marketed to youth, and advice on how to talk with your child about the risks.
* Saturday, August 24 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12303174 ]: Learn what you can grow during Santa Clara County's cool rainy season with Master Gardener Laura Westley. We'll talk about vegetables including lettuce, chard, kale, broccoli, radishes and more.
* Thursday, August 29 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12699304 ]*: Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with a hands-on Chinese calligraphy workshop. This workshop welcomes participants of all skill levels. Ages 12 and up only.
