Reports will be released at 4:30pm on the following dates: Friday, Nov. 15 Monday, Nov. 18 Wednesday, Nov. 20 Friday, Nov. 22 Election results will be certified on Dec. 5, 2024. See County's Results Portal City Council Ceremonial Items for Nov. 18 Meeting "I Voted" Sticker Competition Winners Winona R. (age 16), Alix (age 8), Ares (age 8), and Madi B. (age 10) will receive certificates and commendations from the City Council for their winning "I Voted" and "Future Voter" sticker designs. Mayor's Quarterly Hero Award The Mayor will honor Pamela McCarthy-Hudson from Samaritan House who has made the City of San Mateo a better place. Small Business Saturday – Proclamation The City will recognize Saturday, Nov. 30 as "Small Business Saturday," in honor of small businesses locally and across the country that bring hometown pride, unique style, and cultural influences into the fabric of our community. City Council Meeting Preview The following items will be discussed by the San Mateo City Council on Nov. 18, 2024 (Click the button below for the full City Council Agenda and Packet): Study Session, 5:30 p.m. Review of City Pools: Current Status, Assessments and Future Plans The City Council will receive a report on the condition assessments of the Martin Luther King Pool and Joinville Swim Center. The report will outline findings and recommendations for ongoing maintenance, potential upgrades, and explore partnership opportunities to ensure continued operations of both facilities. Councilmembers will have the opportunity to provide feedback to guide the development of a comprehensive action plan for these vital community resources. Regular Meeting, 7 p.m. Old Business ​​Wireless Communication Facilities in the Public Right of Way Update​ - Ordinance Introduction and Policy Approval The City Council will consider the introduction of an ordinance to amend San Mateo Municipal Code Chapter 17.10, which governs "Wireless Communications Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way." Additionally, Council will review and potentially adopt a Resolution establishing a City Council Policy that sets forth procedural and substantive guidelines specifically for "Small Wireless Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way." This item aims to enhance regulatory clarity and support streamlined processes for wireless facility installations. Senior Advisory Commission – Ordinance Introduction The City Council will consider the introduction of an ordinance to amend San Mateo Municipal Code Chapter 2.29, renaming the “Senior Citizens Commission” to the “Senior Advisory Commission.” This amendment also includes miscellaneous updates to improve clarity and accuracy within the code. This change reflects the City's commitment to enhancing the role and relevance of the Commission in addressing senior community needs. Wet Weather Preparations - Update The City Council will receive an update on the City’s preparations for wet weather and ongoing storm response activities. This presentation will cover measures taken to mitigate storm impacts, enhance community safety, and ensure effective responses during the rainy season. Councilmembers will have the opportunity to discuss these efforts and provide feedback on the City's readiness for upcoming weather events. New Business City Manager, City Attorney, Department Head and Deputy Director Compensation Plan - Amendment The City Council will consider adopting a resolution to amend the City's Compensation Plan. Key changes include: 1) increasing salary ranges for the City Attorney, City Manager, department heads, and deputy directors, 2) increasing executive leave to 80 hours for department heads, and 3) adjusting the language for deferred compensation and retirement health savings accounts (RHSA) for the City Manager, City Attorney, department heads, and deputy directors. These updates aim to maintain competitive and equitable compensation for executive-level positions in the City of San Mateo. Check Out the Winter Activity Guide Public Works Progress City's Safe Routes to School Program Donates Helmets and Bike Locks to Students The City of San Mateo’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program recently partnered with the San Mateo County Office of Education, San Mateo-Foster City School District, and the Police Activities League (PAL) to provide helmets and bike locks to students in our community to encourage more of our youth to regularly ride a bike. Requests came in through Abbott Middle School's administration and our PAL partners. The SRTS program was able to distribute helmets and locks, as well as bike bells to more than 40 Abbott students, brining the total number of students served this school year to 70. Library News & Events Family Concert: Grupo Falso Baiano San Francisco quartet Grupo Falso Baiano will perform at the Main Library on Saturday, Nov. 23, 3-4 p.m. in the Oak Room, bringing the joy of Brazilian choro music! Choro is one of Brazil’s earliest popular music, originating in the 1870s, and remains a vibrant, evolving style today.
