Email from City of South San Francisco     View the complete newsletter on the web   Hello, South San Francisco Community! I hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine this week, especially after the winter storms we've experienced. As we embrace this beautiful weather, I encourage you to explore the many outdoor treasures our city has to offer. Whether it's hiking up Sign Hill for breathtaking views, strolling along the Bay Trail in Oyster Point, or enjoying the thrill of our brand-new skate park at Centennial Way Park South, there's something for everyone. Take a moment to visit our website for a full list of parks, from scenic walking trails and vibrant community gardens to playful playgrounds and fun-filled dog parks. South San Francisco truly has something for everyone to enjoy! Speaking of our great parks, a new one is coming to Linden and Pine, and we want to hear your thoughts on the final concept! Come to the Concept Celebration on Saturday, March 1 between 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and meet me and our neighbors, the project design team, our City staff, and enjoy free refreshments. Let’s celebrate a new chapter for the families in our beautiful Old Town and beyond! Last week, we honored Black History Month with a Joy Fest, led by the South San Francisco Public Library. Together, we enjoyed great music, spoken word, a short film, a fun round of double dutch, and a beautiful assortment of food. The joy and the pride in the room was undoubtedly there. Thank you to everyone, neighbors and those visiting from out of town who shared their voice and enlightened our community about Black culture and your rich history – our history. Reminder: South San Francisco values diversity, equity and inclusion and we value the quality of life and safety of all of our community members regardless of immigration status. We are one South City. If you missed the first ”Know Your Rights” ”Conozca Sus Derechos” immigration workshop on February 12, please visit the County’s Office of Community Affairs for additional workshops and resources. We will communicate other local dates and workshops that we have planned in the next weeks, as they come. Mayor Eddie along with our City Council have approved and are making Safe Streets for Schools a true reality in South City, and that means school zone speed limits will be reduced to 15 MPH within 500 feet of schools (see list of schools below). This reduced limit applies to two-lane roads in residential areas where the existing speed limit is 30 MPH or lower. The new school zones will operate at 15 MPH whenever children are present, such as during morning drop-offs, afternoon pick-ups, recess, and outdoor activities. The City of South San Francisco is committed to improving safety for children, families, and the entire community by reducing speed limits in school zones. This initiative is part of our broader General Plan and Vision Zero strategy, aiming to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 2025.     UPCOMING EVENTS   Saturday, February 22, 12:00 PM: Film Screening: KINTSUKUROI Join us to watch the film with a Q&A to follow with the film director, Kerwin Berk.
