Time flies when a city’s on the move — and South San Francisco has had a big year. That’s why I’m excited to invite you to one of our most important annual traditions: the State of the City address. I’m excited to invite you to two different formats of this year’s presentation: Wednesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m.: Our State of the City, free and open to the public, will be one of the agenda items I’ll present on at the regular City Council meeting held at the Council Chambers in our Library | Parks & Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way. Registration is not required, and I encourage you to stay for the rest of the meeting to learn more about our City initiatives in real time! Again, this is a free event and open to all who wish to attend. Thursday, November 13 at 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: We’ve extended a special invitation to our local businesses, hoteliers, educational and healthcare partners for this special luncheon event— making it a unique opportunity to hear directly from City leadership and connect with fellow business owners and executives. I will also be joined by special guests: Our own South City youth and one of our student interns will also host a fireside chat with me, and other special guests. The meeting is free for anyone to attend, and registration is not required. Lunch is available for purchase here. However, if you would like to attend without joining the luncheon, you are able to do so. Together, we’ll reflect on the past year’s achievements, share the City’s vision for the future, and celebrate everything that makes South San Francisco the place we call home. I can’t wait to share our State of the City with you!   Code Enforcement Appreciation Week This week, South San Francisco joins communities across the nation in recognizing the dedication of our Public Works Code Enforcement team; problem-solvers who help keep our city safe, clean, and livable. While their work rarely makes headlines, it touches nearly every block in our city: removing blight, safeguarding housing quality, supporting small businesses with permitting and signage, and partnering with Building, Planning, Economic and Community Development (ECD) Police, and Fire, to address issues quickly and fairly. Code Enforcement is about education first. Our officers spend most of their day helping residents and businesses better understand local standards covering everything from property maintenance and illegal dumping to unpermitted construction and noise. They often coordinate with other departments to resolve complex cases involving health and safety, ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and due process. This week, I invite you to join me in thanking these public servants for the professionalism, patience, and care they bring to every case. You can support their work and your community by: Using Engage SSF to report concerns like graffiti, abandoned items, or chronic nuisances. Keeping sidewalks clear, trash bins stored properly, and landscaping trimmed to maintain neighborhood safety and accessibility. Checking city guidelines before starting home projects to avoid costly rework. Being a good neighbor - start with a conversation when it’s safe and appropriate. Behind every resolved complaint is a safer home, a stronger business corridor, or a cleaner neighborhood. Our Code Enforcement team helps make that possible, day in and day out. On behalf of the City, thank you to our Code Enforcement professionals for their commitment to service, fairness, and community pride. You’ll likely make their day, just as they work to improve yours.   Trick or Treat with us at Tomorrow’s Halloween Extravaganza! Tomorrow’s the day! Come have a spooktacular time at our Annual Halloween Extravaganza on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Orange Memorial Park in South San Francisco! Admission is free! This family-friendly event is packed with exciting activities for all ages. Your city government works best when our community is engaged!     COMMUNITY RESOURCES Vote Centers and Ballot Drop Boxes are open for the November 4, 2025 Statewide Special Election Beginning Saturday, October 25, you can cast your vote at the Library Parks & Recreation Center, 2nd floor Community Room: Voting Hours (Dates Open & Business Hours) October 25 to November 3 Daily, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Election Day, November 4 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can also drop off your mail ballot at the Ballot Drop Boxes that are located in three locations: 1)outside the L|PR parking lot/playground area; 2) in front of City Hall; or 3) in the City Hall parking lot off Miller Avenue. Learn More   Low-Cost Pet Vaccination & Microchip Clinics The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA holds low-cost vaccination & microchip clinics the first and third Saturday of each month from 9:00-10:50 a.m. and the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:50 p.m. at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo. Vaccine services are by appointment only. Vaccinations help protect your pet against harmful diseases. Vaccinations for rabies, FVRCP, and DHPP are available for $15 per vaccine. These services are for cats and dogs of all ages. Visit phs-spca.org/vaccination-clinics to schedule an appointment and for more information. Microchips are a great help in reuniting people with lost pets. Microchips are available for $30 at the vaccine and microchip clinic. You can also bring your animal to the Coyote Point shelter at 12 Airport Blvd in San Mateo anytime during open hours to be microchipped for a fee of $30. The Coyote Point shelter is open Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends.
