Please remember that our SSF Public Works Department is here to assist you with any storm-related issues. Safety Tips: Secure Outdoor Items: High winds can blow around unsecured objects. Ensure that outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other items are properly secured. Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside unless necessary, especially during peak wind hours. Drive Carefully: If you must drive, be cautious of fallen tree limbs and debris on the roads. Prepare for Power Outages: Keep flashlights, batteries, and other essentials handy in case of power outages. Report Issues: Contact our Public Works Department for any storm-related concerns or emergencies. Local Resources for Storm Assistance: Public Works Department: Available to assist with storm-related issues. Contact them through the city's website or by phone. Sandbags: Residents can assemble up to ten sandbags per address, free of charge, from the Public Works Department. Emergency Information: Sign up for alerts from the San Mateo County Alert System (SMC Alert) to stay informed about urgent situations. Shelter Resources: Our Library/Parks & Recreation Center is also open to help keep you and your devices charged, should you experience a power disruption. Non-Emergency Issues: Call 2-1-1 for non-emergency, storm-related issues or submit a report online at See Click Fix. Tonight, also marks our very first Lunar New Year Night Market taking place in the breezeway by our Economic Advancement Center at 366 Grand Avenue. Come out for a fantastic performance by traditional lion dancers and eat delicious food in celebration of the year of the Snake. This event is free of charge and open to everyone. Bring your loved ones, and let’s build community together! South San Francisco values diversity, equity and inclusion, and we value the quality of life and safety of all of our community members regardless of immigration status. We are one South City. This is in the very fabric of who we are as a City, and it’s why we’re partnering with multiple organizations this month, including JobTrain, to help co-sponsor a ”Know Your Rights” ”Conozca Sus Derechos” immigration workshop, next Wednesday, February 12th at our Economic Advancement Center (366 Grand Avenue). We will be having a number of other workshops addressing these very important topics in the coming weeks. We want to reiterate that our Mayor and City Council stand hand-in-hand united to support all of our communities and neighbors regardless of the color of your skin, language, gender, sex, or religion, and we affirm to continue to keep our community safe and thriving. However, I encourage you to visit this resource page, set up by the County’s Office of Community Affairs which includes a guide to the multitude of services available to all local residents, regardless of immigration status: Additional “Know Your Rights” Community Workshops: These info sessions on immigration rights, legal resources, and services are being held throughout San Mateo County and are offered in English and Spanish. They are open to all residents, regardless of immigration status. Rapid Response Hotline: Find out how to prepare for or report immigration or ICE raids. Call the San Mateo County Rapid Response Hotline at 203-666-4472 (203-NO-MIGRA)   Attention South San Francisco Rental Property Owners! With the overwhelming passage of the voter-approved Measure W (Business License Tax) this past November 2024, all long-term residential rental properties—including single-family homes & ADUs—are now subject to the Business License Tax. All businesses operating in South San Francisco, including home-based businesses, must have a business license. Learn more with the FAQ available on the Business License page. Please note that: 2025 renewal deadline extended to Feb. 28, 2025 No penalties until March 1, 2025   Free Tax Preparation at Roberta Cerri Teglia Center Tax season is upon us! Free IRS-certified tax preparation, offered in partnership with AARP, will be available at the Roberta Cerri Teglia Center (601 Grand Ave) on Mondays and Saturdays, February 3 – April 12. Open to low- and middle-income residents, with preference given to senior citizens. Complex returns (e.g., rental properties) not accepted. Learn More Finding a Path The 2025 quarterly art gallery program launches with a show that explores the theme of “Finding A Path,” through personal experiences or broader cultural narratives. Enjoy viewing over 40 outstanding two- and three-dimensional works displayed in this juried art exhibit. Learn More   Did You Know: You can ride around the Oyster Point business district via a rented scooter? Oyster Point Mobility recently launched 150 seated electric scooters throughout the Oyster Point business district! This innovative pilot program approved by our City Council is brought to you by Oyster Point Mobility, a business community coalition working to reduce traffic in South San Francisco from employees commuting to Oyster Point. These scooters are available to the public for a nominal rented fee. Scooters are required to park in designated areas and locations in the business area for now as this is a pilot and are not allowed to ride west of Highway 101. If you happen to see a scooter parked inappropriately, please inform Veo at hello@veoride.com or 855-836-2256.
