We’ve compiled a short list of resources available should the community be interested in helping through donations, volunteering and more. Thank you to the Palo Alto Fire Department personnel and all first responders who are actively deployed in the Los Angeles area supporting those in need. Outdoor Adventure Awaits with the Foothills Nature Preserve Library Pass Get ready for your next outdoor adventure with an easy click of a button, thanks to enhancements to the City’s Foothills Nature Preserve Library Pass program for vehicle access. Palo Alto City Library patrons can reserve two-week vehicle passes for free entry to the Foothills Nature Preserve. These new passes expand the existing program from a one-day printed pass to a two-week pass, making it even easier to explore the preserve's 1,400 acres of trails, woodlands, and stunning views. Learn more here. Eleanor Pardee Park Restroom Survey The City is exploring the potential of adding a new public restroom at Eleanor Pardee Park in response to community interest. Share feedback through a survey, open now through February 13. Input will help shape next steps, and if there is strong community support, funding for the project could be recommended in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, with design and installation targeted for Fiscal Year 2027. Apply to Join a City Board, Commission, or Committee City board, commission, and committee members help shape policies and support important City initiatives. New opportunities to volunteer on the Architectural Review Board, Human Relations Commission, and Utilities Advisory Commission with recruitment now open for several open positions. Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through Volunteering Join the YCS Day of Service with youth-driven service opportunities, live music, and inspirational presentations on Monday, January 20 at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Take in a virtual exhibition at the King Center and learn about Dr. King from the National Museum of African American History and Culture. All City facilities will be closed on Monday, January 20, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Public safety services are available 24/7. Weekly City Manager Updates - January 13 City Manager Ed Shikada shares brief updates at each Council meeting, highlighting events, City services, and Council discussions planned. Catch up on the latest through our Palo Alto Connect Medium.com series. This week, gain updates about Palo Alto Fire Department's mutual aid efforts in Los Angeles County, ways to give back through local volunteer opportunities and connect at local events like Palo Alto Chinese Community Lunar New Year Fair at Mitchell Park Community Center, and more. Be Well Practice Gratitude for Health & Happiness: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shares a special guide to practicing gratitude, stating that it may help reduce stress and feel better. From simple daily moments of gratitude and journaling to volunteering or writing letters to a friend, anyone can practice. Give Blood to Save Lives: Consider donating blood, which is always in demand. The Stanford Blood Center makes it easy to schedule a convenient time for you, shares tips to prepare in advance, and eligibility requirements. Family Resources Companion Animal Hour: Get pet parenting advice from experts at Project HumaneKind during a virtual session happening on Thursday, January 23 at 10 a.m. Cut from the Same Cloth – Textile and Technology: Visit the latest exhibition opening on Saturday, January 18 at the Palo Alto Art Center that investigates the relationships between craft and technology. Meet the artists at a celebration on Friday, January 24 at 6 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center. Storytimes Return! Share the love of reading with your children through storytime programs. Bring the kids to Family Storytime (Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at Children’s Library, Fridays at 11 a.m. at Downtown Library, and Saturdays at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Park Library), Little Ones Storytime for toddlers (Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at Children’s Library), Hora de Cuentos en Español (Thursdays at 11 a.m. at College Terrace Library), and Storie di Familia Italiane (select Mondays at 11 a.m. at Children’s Library).
