Leave Fireworks to the Professionals this Independence Day
4th of July 2024
Community members are encouraged to enjoy professional fireworks displays to avoid potential injuries and fires this Fourth of July.
City of Mountain View Fire Department Fire Chief Juan Diaz reminds us, "Illegal fireworks are a serious danger to all, causing devastating wildfires, structure fires, and injuries. Using illegal fireworks carries significant fines, starting at $1,000, with property owners also potentially liable for emergency response costs. This Independence Day, protect our community by avoiding all illegal fireworks, and instead, join us for the safe and professional 2025 Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular with the San Francisco Symphony at Shoreline Amphitheatre."
All fireworks, including those labeled "safe and sane," are dangerous and illegal to use, own, or sell in all of Santa Clara County, except Gilroy. The public is strongly urged to celebrate the holiday safely and without using illegal fireworks.
Fireworks are responsible for thousands of emergency room visits and millions of dollars of property loss across the country every year. Fireworks-related fires and injuries are 100% preventable. Local hospital emergency rooms treat victims of all ages suffering from fireworks-related injuries every year. The severity of injuries ranges from moderate to extreme.
Several cities including Mountain View have family-friendly community events as well as professional fireworks displays planned this July Fourth.
For a list of scheduled displays throughout Santa Clara County, read the Santa Clara County Fire Department's news release [ https://www.sccfd.org/newsroom/ ].
Celebrate Fourth of July on the Water
Shoreline Lake 4th of July
The Boathouse & American Bistro at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View will provide a unique way to enjoy fireworks on the Fourth of July. Experience the best view of the Shoreline Amphitheatre fireworks show from a pedalboat, rowboat, canoe, kayak or standup paddleboard on the lake, together with friends and family.
In addition, The American Bistro is rolling out a Fourth of July barbecue dinner from 6 - 8 p.m. prior to the fireworks show for everyone with watercraft reservations. Boarding for dedicated vessels begins at 8:30 p.m.
To accommodate the influx of park goers seeking to picnic by the water's edge, and enjoy all of the other water- and land-based festivities available that day, hours will be extended past regular park hours for both the bistro from 8 a.m.–10:30 p.m. and the boathouse from 10 a.m.–10:30 p.m.
For more information and to make reservations, visit Shoreline Lake [ https://shorelinelake.com/ ].

The event kicks off on *Wednesday, July 16 at 5 p.m.* at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts with a panel titled "The Future of Work: AI and the Workforce", featuring leaders from LinkedIn, nSpire, and the Krause Center for Innovation. MVFD Receives Class 1 Rating in Public Protection Classification
MVFD
The City of Mountain View Fire Department [ https://www.mountainview.gov/our-city/departments/fire ] is proud to announce that it has once again achieved the highest possible Public Protection Classification rating—Class 1—from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. This marks the third time in MVFD’s history that it has earned this prestigious designation. The MVFD remains the only fire department in Santa Clara County to hold a Class 1 rating.
The ISO Class 1 rating is a nationally recognized benchmark of excellence in fire protection services. It reflects MVFD’s commitment to deploying state-of-the-art emergency response practices, maintaining robust infrastructure, and minimizing risk to the community. Importantly, this rating can also help lower fire insurance premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial properties across Mountain View, benefiting residents and local businesses.
