Quarterly Message from the Palo Alto Police Chief Police Chief Andrew Binder shares important updates in his latest quarterly message. Learn about the Police Department’s uses of grant funding to combat organized retail theft, the Department’s interaction with federal immigration officials, and some good news about hiring efforts. City Council Selects 2025 Priorities The City Council met on Saturday, January 25 and selected their 2025 Council Priorities, and discussed other ways to engage to advance their priorities for the year ahead. Thank you to all residents who shared perspectives helping to inform the Council’s priority-setting discussion. Submissions Open Now: Teen Literary Journal Teens! Turn your love for writing into a published work in the first Palo Alto City Library Teen Literary Journal. For National Poetry month, the library will compile a teen-written, teen-driven anthology. Bay Area teens ages 13-18 are invited to submit either prose or poetry by February 15. Lovely February Events Love learning, connection and community this month and beyond through events, celebrations and more. Join us for Black History month events, including a special performance by the Kalimba King and themed family story times. Plus, don't miss Rinconada Library's 10-year anniversary celebration, an inclusive resource fair, and a bubble show sure to delight kids of all ages. Be Well Heart Health: February is the month of love and hearts. Each week, we’ll share resources to keep your heart healthy and going strong. Harvard health shares that the heart beats about 2.5 billion times over an average lifetime. Keep healthy and use these resources to reduce work stress and lower blood pressure to information about broken heart syndrome and the special bond between dogs and owners. 💗 Palo Alto Mediation Program: Facing a tough situation or conflict with a neighbor, tenant, landlord, coworker, or a local business? Family Resources Civic Impact Summit: Teens are invited to the Youth Civic Engagement Summit to explore politics, law, and the power of youth shaping the future on Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Workshops led by Stanford and Foothill College professors will provide insights on leadership, advocacy, and civic responsibility. Pizza and boba will be provided plus chances to win prizes. Puzzle Your Way through Palo Alto: Join the 4th Annual Puzzle Hunt and celebrate friendship, creativity, and community starting this Saturday though February 28! Get weekly puzzles that will take you to locations throughout the city and get the chance to win prizes. Author Event - We Are the Builders: Kids and their families are invited to an event with author and social change advocate Deepa Iyer reading and discussing her children’s picture book, We Are the Builders!, about a close-knit diverse neighborhood where everybody is pitching in to help one another. The program will be on Sunday, February 2 at 3 p.m. at Mitchell Park Library. Gamble Garden Lunar New Year Celebration: See a Chinese Lion Dance, make arts and crafts in honor of the Year of the Snake, and enjoy nature hunts and tours as part of Second Saturdays at Gamble Garden on Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. Upcoming Construction Activities Caltrain Safety Fencing: Vegetation removal continues this week to advance new safety fencing installation on February 3 from Palo Alto Caltrain Station platform and extend south to Churchill Avenue. Questions can be sent to Caltrain. Meadow/Ross Road Stop Sign Installation: Stop sign installation at the intersection of Ross Road/Meadow Road is expected on February 1. University Ave./E. Crescent Dr. Flashing Beacon: Construction began this week for 4 – 6 weeks to install a new push button activated flashing beacon system will be installed at the existing crosswalk on University Avenue at East Crescent Drive.
