  Mayor's Update     Hello neighbor! It’s officially summer (yes, even in South City), and we’ve got a full calendar for you and your family, beginning with some opportunities for you to meet me and your Councilmembers at our district outreach events. View last week’s newsletter for all the details: June 22: Old Town/Downtown (District 5) Town Hall with Vice Mayor Eddie Flores June 24: Buri-Buri/Southwood Avalon Park / Brentwood (District 4) Town Hall with Mayor James Coleman June 27: Westborough (District 2) Town Hall with Councilmember Mark Nagales   New Street Surface Seals Work Starts Next Week This project will provide asphalt pavement maintenance of several residential, collector, and arterial streets in Downtown and Old Town neighborhoods of the city as part of the Pavement Management Program (PMP) beginning next week. Learn More   Learn With Us at the Library Click image to view the flyers Saturday, June 22,12:00 p.m.: Juneteenth Celebration with Buffalo Soldier Reenactors Celebrate Juneteenth with the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry, Company G of Northern California with a short film and talk on African Americans in the Civil War and the Buffalo Soldiers. Enjoy a display of Civil War artifacts and traditional Juneteenth red velvet cupcakes. (Library | Parks & Recreation Center, 901 Civic Campus Way) Saturday, June 22, 2:00 p.m.: Unique Derique Unique Derique, the Bay Area's "Clown Prince of Fools," inspires learning through play through his interactive blend of comedy, juggling, and Hambone body percussion! Learn about the African roots and rhythms of Hambone body percussion, its evolution in America, and its impact on African American culture while practicing some of his playful rhythms. (Grand Avenue Branch Library, 306 Walnut Avenue) Monday, June 24, 6:00 p.m.: Author Talk: All Pride, No Ego by Jim Fielding In All pride, no ego: a queer executive's journey to living and leading authentically, Jim Fielding shares his experience as an openly LGBTQ+ executive, as well as his advice for leaders from all walks of life. Join us this Pride Month for a discussion and Q&A. (City Council Chambers, Library | Parks & Recreation Center, 901 Civic Campus Way)     COMMUNITY RESOURCES Get Air Quality Data As our area begins to be impacted by wildfire smoke from fires burning in Northern California, here are some safety tips to protect yourself: Check Air Quality Index (AQI): Stay informed about local air quality by using apps or websites. Limit Outdoor Activities: Reduce strenuous outdoor activities when air quality is poor. Use Air Purifiers: Keep indoor air clean by using air purifiers with HEPA filters. Close Windows and Doors: Keep your home sealed to prevent outside air from coming in. Visit fire.airnow.gov to check the current air quality at your location.
