City Statement on 2025 Santa Clara County Point-in-Time Count

The results for the 2025 Point-in-Time Count [ https://www.mountainview.gov/Home/Components/News/News/1137/284 ], released by the County of Santa Clara this week, found that the number of people experiencing homelessness in Mountain View rose by 56% compared to the 2023 PIT count, going from 562 to 879 people. Like other cities in the northern part of Santa Clara County, Mountain View saw an increase in unsheltered homelessness due to more people residing in vehicles, especially in RVs. There was also a slight increase in shelter capacity in Mountain View.

Castro Street Curb Ramps Project

Construction equipment tearing up concrete with a sidewalk closed sign

Starting this week, crews began work on the Castro Street Curb Ramps Project in Downtown Mountain View.

The project will upgrade non-compliant curb ramps and median pathways along Castro Street – from Fairmont Avenue to California Street – to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Downtown visitors can expect sidewalk closures with pedestrian detours, some vehicle detours, and periodic construction noise. Construction is expected to take approximately five to six weeks to complete. Businesses will remain open throughout the project.

The project is funded by Senate Bill 1 – the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
