Email from City of South San Francisco   Mayor's Update     Hello neighbor! First off, I’m excited to share some long-awaited good news! Yesterday we announced that we issued a building permit for the new Safeway grocery retail center located at 190 El Camino Real, and contractors are mobilizing to begin construction within the coming weeks. You can read all about it in yesterday’s press release. Most of you should have received your ballots already, and if you haven’t, I highly encourage you to register to vote. Your voice matters! The links below will help you register to vote and find your nearest vote center.   Register to Vote Start or update your registration online on California’s election website. You can also register to vote by mail or in person on California’s election website. Voter registration deadlines Online registration deadline: Monday, October 21, 2024 Register by mail deadline: Must be postmarked by Monday, October 21, 2024 In person registration deadline: Tuesday, November 5, 2024 Register   Did you know that the City Council chooses one of its members as Mayor and one of its members as Vice Mayor? The City Council Handbook provides for every district to have an equal chance at representation through the Mayorship by rotation by district. For more information about the selection process for the Mayor and Vice Mayor, refer to the City Council Procedure and Protocols Handbook. Learn More Presidential General Election - 2024 Vote Center The Library Parks & Recreation Center is now open as a 2024 Vote Center! Cast your vote on the 2nd floor in the Library Community Room. You can also drop off your mail ballot in the ballot box located outside next to the building's parking lot. Other ballot boxes can be found in the front of City Hall and the City Hall parking lot. We’re recognizing October 6 - 12 as Code Enforcement Week. We’re also recognizing October 14, 2024 as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Rachyl has over 18 years of experience leading a bustling bio-tech childcare center, and has led a team of 400+ educators in developing vibrant childcare programs deeply rooted in Reggio Emilia play-based learning principles. Did you know the City hosts the Congregate Nutrition Program for seniors 60+ at the Roberta Cerri Teglia Center located at 601 Grand Avenue every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m.? Our lunch menu is always available in our Newsletter, on our website, and hard copies at the Roberta Cerri Teglia Center featuring delicious meals catered by Moon Chef. Join SSMC for this year’s Indicators Report launch event, where experts will discuss the challenges of meeting EV charging demand both equitably and efficiently. Speakers from Stanford, Redwood City Public Works Services Department, Peninsula Clean Energy, and PG&E will make recommendations regarding what local leaders, utilities, businesses, and residents can do to expand access to EV charging and address one of the biggest contributors to climate change in San Mateo County. Admission is free, but registration is required by October 22.  Thurs.
