Expect high surf, possible thunderstorms, and cold temperatures. Community impacts could include periods of heavy rain, water ponding in roadways, and elevated creek levels. State of the City: Tuesday, March 18 @ Rivian Join this year's State of the City, where Mayor Lauing will share a look at the year ahead. The State of the City will take place at Rivian Automotive – Palo Alto Campus, 607 Hansen Way on Tuesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. with a reception to follow. Strength in Community: Community Resources Project Safety Net and its coalition partners, including the City of Palo Alto issued a letter to the community following last week's tragedy offering ways to support one another during these challenging times. Upcoming Cubberley Community Conversations: March 19, June 12 & September 17 The future of Cubberley is taking shape, and your voice is essential in the conversation. As the City of Palo Alto explores opportunities to reimagine this important community space, we invite the community to share ideas and stay engaged. The first Community Meeting to advance the Master Planning effort is happening on Wednesday, March 19 and will be focused on Vision, Programming, & Placemaking. Save the date for future community discussions on Thursday, June 12 and Wednesday, September 17. All meetings will take place at 6 p.m. and are located at the Cubberley Pavilion. Palo Alto Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Notifications Following the October 2024 hazardous materials incident, the City evaluated reporting procedures and implemented changes such as a new central location for future Palo Alto Fire Department Hazardous Materials response notifications and ability to sign-up for email updates as incident details are available. Weekly City Manager Updates: March 10 City Manager Ed Shikada shares brief updates at each Council meeting, highlighting events, City services, and Council discussions planned. Avoid food waste by freezing leftovers for up to 3-6 months and enjoy this healthy treat later on! 🥕 Family Resources Upcoming Nightwork Anticipated at the Alma/Churchill Railroad Crossing: In preparation for the upcoming traffic signal switchover to the new system, new poles will be installed in the Caltrain right of way. Due to Caltrain restrictions, night work is scheduled on Saturday, March 15, midnight – 7 a.m. Traffic will be maintained in both directions; expect delays. Free Income Tax Preparation: Tax-Aid will provide free income tax return preparation to qualified individuals who earned $67,000 or less on Saturdays March 15 and March 29 starting at 10 a.m. at the Mitchell Park Library. This service is drop-in, first come, first served and the last file will be accepted no later than 2 p.m. More information, including what documents to bring, can be found here. An Afternoon of Music: Enjoy the Aris Quartet’s program of classical music on Saturday, March 15 at 3 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center Auditorium. Take in some swing and jazz music with Musicians in Residence: Nathan’s Fearless Five on Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. and the third Saturday of every month at Rinconada Library. Nowruz Festivities: Celebrate spring’s arrival and the new year holiday as celebrated in Iran and various parts of Central Asia.
