In a similar fashion to Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch aims to create a safer business environment, reduce crime, and foster strong partnerships between law enforcement, the businesses, and all patrons visiting San Mateo. The program is designed to highlight partnerships, education & training, information sharing, and community engagement. Some benefits include increased security, a direct line of communication with the police department, obtaining crime prevention resources, and enhanced community relationships. Through regular communication, businesses and police can quickly share information about potential threats, crime, or suspicious activity. SMPD can provide businesses with training on crime prevention techniques, how to protect assets, and how to handle emergencies and report crime. The program facilitates the exchange of vital information regarding crime trends, scams, and other security concerns that could impact the business. They are also encouraged to register any security cameras with our Neighborhood Eyes Security Team (NEST) program: For more information on the program, email businesswatch@cityofsanmateo.org.
