Library Events for Adults
Improv [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/14475722 ]
IN-PERSON: Summer's Summer Introduction to Improv
*Saturday, August 9, 1 to 2:30 p.m.*
*Thursday, August 14, 6 to 7:30 p.m.*
*Monday, August 18, 6 to 7:30 p.m.*
Join us for an afternoon of improv at Sunnyvale Public Library!
Improv is the art of co-creating scenes with your partners on the fly: the characters, plot and objectives are all built in the moment to the delight of the audience — and often the performers themselves.
On Saturday, watch improv instructor and actress Summer Pierson lead a troupe of improvisational actors through various sketches. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most importantly, you'll have a good time.
The following workshops, "Introduction to Improv", will teach you what "Yes, And" is all about, while developing the basic skills that will enable you to feel more comfortable dropping into local improv meet-ups, help with your presentation skills, and simply infuse more fun and friendship into your week!
Each program is for adults and will take place in the Library Program Room. Registration is required for each session. Please register for only one workshop so that others may have an opportunity to participate.

ONLINE: The Silk Road: Globalization in the Ancient World*
*Monday, August 11, 7 to 8 p.m.*
Before jet planes and smartphones, people spent months or years traversing perilous routes to carry luxury goods thousands of miles across the globe. As desirable commodities such as silk, porcelain, paper, tea, jade, amber, spices, ivory, gunpowder, gold and silver were carried across the land and sea trade routes known as the Silk Road, so too were religions, ideas and new technologies. In this program, travel the ancient routes that connected countries from the Mediterranean to the Pacific and discover the historic transformations that resulted from these complex cultural exchanges.
This one-hour online lecture by Asian Art Museum community speaker docent Aggie Brenneman is followed by a Q&A.
Please arrive on time to ensure your spot. Waitlisted registrants will receive the Zoom link a couple minutes after the program begins.
Registration [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/13414584 ] is required.

Cut the Heat with Induction!
Hot weather can make everyday activities, like cooking, feel uncomfortable. Gas stovetops give off extra heat, making your kitchen even warmer in the summer.
With the Library's Cool Cooktops Program, you can borrow an induction cooktop to create your favorite meals all the while improving your indoor air quality! Induction cooking keeps your kitchen cooler, quickly heating your pan — and not the air around it.
