* The materials return station will undergo maintenance on Tuesday, July 2. Please return items to the Customer Service desk on this date. Borrowing will not be affected. We apologize for the inconvenience.
* The Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Regular hours will resume on Friday, July 5.





Summer Reading Continues

Have you signed up for Summer Reading yet? Register [ https://mountainview.beanstack.com/reader365 ] the whole family to read, learn and earn rewards before the program ends on July 31. This program is suitable for all ages.

Kids who have registered are invited to come to the Children’s Room to create a paper flower out of provided materials and write their favorite book in the center of their flower. Our goal is to fill the whole wall along Pioneer Park with flowers.

Gurbani will show us how to prepare her recipe for Pav Bhaji Sliders with a Carrot Salad from her cookbook, "Mumbai Modern: Vegetarian Recipes Inspired by Indian Roots and California Cuisine [ https://catalog.mountainview.gov/Record/.b28232021 ]".
* Thursday, July 18 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12185932 ]: Don't miss the amazing Happy Birds! These famous feathered performers have been featured on various shows and even in the Guinness Book of World Records.
* Monday, July 22 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12308175 ]: Teens, are you interested in being a DJ? Come and learn about the tools and process with special guest presenter, DJ Yuka Yu. She'll go over downloading and organizing your music collection, using Rekordbox to prepare your playlists, and mixing harmonically. Aspiring DJs of all levels in grades 8-12 are invited to attend. 
* Tuesday, July 23 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12576602 ]: If you're planning to explore a California State Park over the summer, then come to a talk by State Parks Interpreter Alex Trudelle that will cover favorite spots, recreational opportunities and tips for visiting local parks.
* Wednesday, July 24 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/12185975 ]: Perry Yan's Magic Show will have both kids and adults entertained from start to finish.
* Saturday, July 27 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/11962860 ]: Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a lively performance from Saint Gabriel's Celestial Brass Band. Join us in Pioneer Park for free frozen treats and experience the sound of New Orleans as you bask in the sunshine.

Season of STEAM





STEAM in the Park




Kids are invited to join us for STEAM Fridays [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/calendar/libraryevents/?t=d&q=STEAM%20Fridays&cid=8800&cal=8800&inc=0 ] throughout July. This drop-in program offers a variety of self-directed, interactive activities for budding scientists, aspiring engineers and artists. STEAM Fridays are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Mountain View Library.

Explore the Outdoors





California State Parks




Explore the outdoors [ https://library.mountainview.gov/borrow/explore-the-outdoors ] with the Library this summer! We have a number of special items that you can borrow and bring with you on trips around the state.

If you’re heading to a California State Park, borrow a California State Parks pass [ https://library.mountainview.gov/borrow/california-state-parks-passes ] to access it for free. You can also borrow a Parks pass with one of our hiking backpacks [ https://catalog.mountainview.gov/Record/.b33628191 ], which comes with a compass and field guides that will introduce you to California’s trees, wildflowers and wildlife.

We have another set of hiking backpacks [ https://catalog.mountainview.gov/Record/.b34643801 ] with equipment that can be used for any local hike. These backpacks come with a number of handy items including trekking poles, mosquito head nets, emergency ponchos, a microscope and more.

If you’re going on a bicycle road trip, take one of our bike repair kits [ https://catalog.mountainview.gov/Record/.b34627972 ] with you. Strap the bag onto your bicycle frame so you can access the tools at any point on the trail. Summer Reading Kick-off





The Summer Reading Program kicked off with an all-ages extravaganza in Pioneer Park, where over 300 attendees enjoyed lawn games, treats and music with featured artists Cascada de Flores and Cumbia Paradiso.

Andre Thierry Zydeco Musician





Nationally recognized local musician Andre Thierry shared Zydeco music with 212 attendees. Kids were especially excited for the opportunity to play a washboard and accordion.

Our audience was serenaded by professional harpist Aysha Gomez-Kureishi as she performed a selection of famous classical pieces.
