City Council Prioritizes Work Plan Projects

Strategic Priorities crop

At the Tuesday, April 22 meeting, the Mountain View City Council approved a total of 16 projects for their Council Work Plan for Fiscal Years 2025-26 and 2026-27.

The projects include nine existing projects (such as extension of the Steven’s Creek Trail and a strategy to promote low- and moderate-income home ownership) and seven new projects (including citywide objective design standards and a goal to end natural gas flow in Mountain View by 2045). The Council will adopt its work plan on Tuesday, June 24 along with the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget.

The Council developed a work plan that prioritizes “quality over quantity” for the two-year cycle. The Council aligned their work plan with existing City of Mountain View initiatives and ongoing operational efforts dedicated to achieving the Council’s seven Strategic Priorities. The work plan is also aligned with current staffing and fiscal resources.

Community Is Rooted in Sustainability at Earth and Arbor Day Celebration

Earth and Arbor Day 2025

On Saturday, April 19, Mountain View community members gathered at Rengstorff Park to celebrate Earth and Arbor Day with the planting of 18 new trees. The event kicked off with a ceremonial planting of the first tree—a Blue Oak—led by the Mayor.

Following the ceremony, volunteers from Canopy and local residents rolled up their sleeves to plant 17 additional trees along the front of the park. The new plantings, which include Blue Oaks and Chinese Fringe Trees, contribute to a healthier urban canopy. These new additions increase the total number of trees in Rengstorff Park to more than 200!

The celebration offered more than just tree planting. Attendees explored booths hosted by local non-profits with information about composting, gardening and other opportunities for earth-friendly action, learned about sustainability initiatives, and took a closer look at the City’s new electric Community Shuttle. Silicon Valley Clean Energy's electric "Dream Home" was on-site, equipped to give residents an opportunity to see and experience the all-electric equipment they can install in their own homes. A photography exhibition captured moments of local nature and conservation, and an interactive art station allowed attendees to create environmentally themed artwork. The chance to pet bunnies and hold insects was especially popular with the youngest attendees.

The event was a hands-on day of community effort and left a visible impact that park visitors will appreciate for years to come.

Downtown Decorative Street Installation Begins in May

Decorative Street Treatment

The heart of Downtown Mountain View is getting a glow up. On Tuesday, May 6, the City of Mountain View is scheduled to begin installing the “ribbons” decorative street treatment on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of Castro Street, weather permitting. The installation is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Painting of the new street treatment will take place during standard weekday work hours, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday. Only half a block of the central walkway will be closed at any given time during the installation period. Businesses are open throughout the project. Sidewalk access will also remain available.

The vibrant street enhancement to the central walkways will add color and visual interest to what’s called the Castro Pedestrian Mall. The placemaking project will contribute to the welcoming, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere of Downtown.

Have Your Say About Affordable Housing and Community Development in the City

Heartwood Apts

The City of Mountain View is currently seeking public input on three documents that will help assess our community’s affordable housing and community development needs, including the 2025-2030 Consolidated Plan, 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan and Citizen Participation Plan.

The Consolidated Plan is a five-year strategy required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It uses housing market data and public input to identify the needs of the community's low- and moderate-income population while providing a five-year plan of how the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds will be used to address those needs.

The Annual Action Plan identifies activities and projects funded by the CDBG and HOME programs to achieve the City’s five-year Consolidated Plan goals.

A 30-day public comment period for these documents is currently open through May 13, and a public hearing will take place at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 13. To view these documents, and for more information, visit MountainView.gov/Housing [ https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2FMountainView.gov%2FHousing%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR6vZ6dANqioh-MQfth79JB7fZKm5CjnaWUgGUFklUAHqD2CCIWJqxXWZY7YEA_aem_zt81W3nHTFWaCAVvXcKSBA&h=AT1OUNxjStFVjyuIecERufLgMnPQsRMeoiWqIZWRPd6RA1w4Pg23cR7hFFYusKI2t7HMXPdLjaFywTmb6f6Prp09041oi7dnuzoC1Hvk0Fvx7wkuIpx2eseQVanR_JPht0GixmerII1qug&__tn__=-UK-R&c%5b0%5d=AT1-2qWjKuzES8yb-wxh89fZP-eEeN4zt3ErzTkmB5ZgKg8dJLKNYPYSpkwlX644Pw8e4IoJheLTnyU1unQ5D2QdvnX2qWQxqk2Rq1dRB5ae2G3cq7oNO0d2EKSzQLgVvx4vVlRjF35Bcw-qBnTWYVpxpV6T0w-Et-HH-OA5MaKi3JzxqtJdWCAZpnC0RDH2EiD6xzQ45YK16MnSbTKt_Htuev-e ].
