Mayor Eddie’s Newsletter | Oldtown Update, Linden Park Final Concept, and more | February 28, 2025

Email from City of South San Francisco     View the complete newsletter on the web   Hello, South San Francisco Community! We've got some fantastic news for our beloved Downtown/Historic Old Town area! This Saturday, we're hosting a Preferred Concept Open House for the exciting new community park coming to Linden and Pine! Swing by tomorrow, March 1, anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to meet me, your neighbors, the project design team, and our awesome City staff. Plus, there will be free refreshments to enjoy! Can't wait to see you there! 🎉🌳 Next, we've got some electrifying news to share! During my time on council, I have been advocating and championing the importance of better lighting in our Downtown District 5 area. Now, thanks to the hard work of our Public Works Department, South San Francisco has been awarded a generous $1.26 Million grant from Peninsula Clean Energy, to upgrade our city's Downtown/Old Town historic streetlights for better energy efficiency! This exciting project will replace about 100 streetlights in District 5 on Grand Avenue (from Spruce Avenue to Airport Boulevard) and Linden Avenue (from Railroad Avenue to Airport Boulevard) with LED fixtures. These new lights will keep their charming historic Southy City look we all love, while saving us a whopping 62% in energy! But that's not all—the grant will also fund lighting upgrades at Cypress and Pine Park to boost safety in that neighborhood and continue to support that park. Design work is almost done, and construction is set to kick off this spring. A huge shout-out to the entire South San Francisco City Council and our City staff for partnering with me to make this possible. And of course, a big thank you to Peninsula Clean Energy for the award! I am delighted to bring this to District 5. Stay tuned for more updates, and let's keep shining bright together!   Kintsukuroi Film Recap This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming the incredible docudrama, Kintsukuroi, to our city. As your mayor, I had the honor of giving the welcome address for this special event. Kintsukuroi follows the Ito family from their pre-war life in San Francisco’s Japantown, through the concentration camps of the American West, and onto the battlefields of Europe, as they strive to rebuild their shattered lives. The film captivated a full house in our Council Chambers, and the engaging Q&A session with the film's director, one of the actors (a proud South San Francisco resident), and the music producer was a highlight of the screening. Exciting news: Copies of Kintsukuroi will soon be available for checkout from our library! Don't miss the chance to experience this powerful story. Thanks to former Mayor Karyl Matsumoto, and our Library staff for bringing the wonderful film to our city! Stay Updated by Tuning in to our City Council Meetings!
