Commit to a Greener Community: Status of the City’s 80 x 30 Goal ICYMI: Recent Blog Highlights Citywide Updates New PaloAlto.gov Web URL Coming April 9 The City of Palo Alto will transition its official website URL www.cityofpaloalto.org to www.PaloAlto.gov next Wednesday. The change complies with California State law requiring local municipalities to have a .gov domain by 2029. The transition to the new URL is planned to ensure minimal disruption to the public. Visitors will be automatically redirected to www.PaloAlto.gov as of April 9, 2025. This change will provide enhanced cybersecurity, reinforce confidence and trust in the City’s online presence and increase the website's visibility and ranking in search engines. Learn more at cityofpaloalto.org/newurl. Transportation Planning & Engagement: Quiet Zones, Bike/Ped Crossing Locations, and More! The City is actively pursuing approval to implement quiet zones at all the railroad crossings in Palo Alto. Staff are conducting a Quiet Zone Study per Federal Railroad Administration requirements to determine the necessary improvements for establishing a Quiet Zone at the Churchill Avenue, Meadow Drive, and Charleston Road Caltrain corridor crossings. Join the community meeting on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. to learn more and share your input. Plus, a new online survey was released to gain input that will be used to help select the preferred bicycle and pedestrian crossing locations, designs, and improvements along the railroad corridor in south Palo Alto. Share input by April 30. As a reminder, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan update interactive map is also open through April 30. Commit to a Greener Community: Status of the City’s 80 x 30 Goal Take actionable steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a new community update sharing a status of the City’s 80x30 goal. We’ve come a long way, thanks to community actions so far, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 47% when compared to 1990 levels. April is a perfect time to consider changes at home to build a greener community. This Earth Month, we are sharing ways to enhance community health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the context of the City’s 80x30 goal. Read on to learn more, including ways to save you time and money by committing to a greener community. Consider climate actions you can take such as bike, walk, or take public transit to work or school, improve your household’s energy efficiency, convert your gas water heater to an electric heat pump water heater, make the next event you organize zero-waste and more!
