City Manager's Office Updates Electrify San Mateo: Three Ways to Provide Feedback Switching from natural gas to carbon-free electric equipment in our homes and buildings is critical to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our community. Gas appliances release air pollutants and studies have shown that exposure to these pollutants pose significant health risks such as asthma. In addition to advancing our climate goals, electrification eliminates these risks and can provide a safer and healthier environment. The City of San Mateo seeks your feedback in shaping the Electrify San Mateo: Sustainable Building Strategy and the specific building decarbonization policies the City should pursue. Join us Wednesday, March 5, 7-8 p.m. at the Main Library Oak Room to hear a presentation and share your feedback. Register online. Registration Required Public Works Updates Bay Meadows Parking Enforcement Starts Feb. 24, 2025 Beginning on Feb. 24, 2025, the City of San Mateo will reinstate two-hour parking restrictions on Derby Avenue, Landing Avenue, Kyne Street, 28th Avenue, Paddock Way, and Baze Road. The restrictions will be enforced Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vehicles parked in designated areas for longer than two hours risk being cited by the San Mateo Police Department. The parking changes are part of the Bay Meadows neighborhood's transit-oriented initiative to reduce vehicle dependence and promote alternative transportation options. The parking restrictions were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic and are now being reintroduced. Questions? Contact San Mateo Public Works at (650) 522 7300 or publicworks@cityofsanmateo.org. Learn More Report Illegal Dumping & Learn How to Dispose of Items Safely Did you know that during significant rainstorms, loose, illegally dumped trash enters our drainage systems and contaminates our creeks, the Marina Lagoon, and the San Francisco Bay? In addition to environmental issues, illegal dumping of items such as furniture, televisions, and improperly contained trash and recycling on public and private property lowers property values, creates nuisances such as blocked streets and sidewalks, and threatens the health and safety of us all. Shoreway Environmental Center and Recology Bulky Item Pick Up are great options to properly dispose of unwanted items! Check out their sites for accepted items, hours, and resources. If you witness illegal dumping, immediately report it to the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7700. If you discover illegal dumping, call or email Public Works at (650) 522 7300 or publicworks@cityofsanmateo.org. Together, we can keep our waterways, sidewalks, and streets clean!
