Email from City of South San Francisco Ribbon-Cutting to precede Thanksgiving Fun Run on Saturday PRESS RELEASE Thursday, November 21, 2024 City of South San Francisco to Unveil Upgrades to Oyster Point Shoreline Park Phase 2C Ribbon-cutting ceremony will precede 51st Thanksgiving 5K Fun Run   SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., November 21, 2024 – The City of South San Francisco is excited to announce the completion of the Oyster Point Shoreline Park Phase 2C. Located on the eastern half of the Oyster Point peninsula, this area, owned by the City of South San Francisco and operated by the San Mateo County Harbor District, has undergone extensive renovations. The newly completed phase offers a variety of upgraded amenities, including a brand-new dog park, improved pathways, upgraded picnic areas, fitness equipment, enhanced lighting, seating, and revitalized landscaping. These upgrades provide a more inviting and accessible space for residents and visitors alike with breathtaking views of the bay. "This new park contributes to making Oyster Point a choice destination, offering visitors and their furry friends a perfect blend of nature and recreation,” shared Mayor James Coleman. “We hope that residents from all over South San Francisco and the greater Bay Area will find joy, inspiration, and community here." The Oyster Point Shoreline Park project is divided into phases. Private developments are marked with a "D" after the phase number, and public improvements by the City are marked with a "C" after the phase number. The improvements to this section of the park are made possible through an agreement with the Former Redevelopment Agency, which provided funds to the City for maintenance and repairs to the landscape, parking areas, and Bay Trail within the Phase 2C area. In late 2021, the City engaged landscape architects RHAA and civil engineers Wilsey Ham to design repairs and upgrades that address both the landscape and infrastructure needs, particularly in areas above the 100-year high tide level, in response to concerns about sea level rise. To celebrate the improvements, the City is hosting a ribbon-cutting event at Oyster Point Shoreline Park on Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 a.m. The 51st Thanksgiving 5K Fun Run will take place shortly after. Parking will be available at the Stripe / Cytokinetics Parking Garage at 354 Oyster Point Boulevard, accessible via Marina Boulevard. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments and explore the new features of the park. Additionally, the Peninsula Humane Society’s mobile adoption unit will be on-site, offering a chance for visitors to meet adoptable animals.
