Gas appliances release air pollutants and studies have shown that exposure to these pollutants pose significant health risks, such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In addition to advancing our climate goals, electrification eliminates these risks and can provide a safer and healthier environment. The City of San Mateo seeks your feedback in shaping the Electrify San Mateo: Sustainable Building Strategy and the specific building decarbonization policies the City may pursue. Join us Wednesday, March 5, 7-8 p.m. at the Main Library Oak Room to hear a presentation and share your feedback. For more information and to register for the event click below. Register Here What to Do When You See a Coyote Coyotes are an increasingly common sight in San Mateo County and California. While they play an important role in controlling our rodent populations, they can also be dangerous to pets and humans if they lose their fear of us. To keep humans, pets and coyotes safe, it’s important to practice coyote hazing, which deters them without harm, and reinforces their wariness of humans. Hazing involves anything from waving your arms to appear bigger to making noise with whistles, bells, shaker cans or your voice. For tips on when to haze and not to haze, and ways to reduce attractants to your neighborhood, check out these links: 👉 Project Coyote Fazing Field Guide 👉 Humane Society Coyote Hazing Tips Other Safety Tips  👉 Check out these safety tips in English and Spanish to learn more about how to stay safe around coyotes! ⇨English ⇨Spanish Report Coyote Sightings  📲 Report coyote sightings to the CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife. Learn More Community News & Events Reminder: Know your Rights - Workshops Help People Prepare for Potential Stepped-up Immigration Enforcement The San Mateo County Office of Community Affairs and its partners are presenting Know Your Rights workshops and information sessions in community spaces and at nonprofit organizations throughout the county. The workshops are in line with the County’s recognition as a Certified Welcoming place by Welcoming America, becoming the first county in California to achieve the distinction for its commitment to immigrant inclusion and belonging. At the roughly 90-minute workshops, outreach workers in English and Spanish cover a range of topics that many immigrants see as crucial for their and their family’s future. They hand out wallet-friendly red cards, which include a script to help people assert their rights at home, in the workplace or in a public location. They provide a rapid-response hotline (203-666-4472) to call if federal immigration agents come to your home or work, contacts for legal assistance and additional resources. A resource page set up by the Office of Community Affairs includes a guide to the multitude of services available to all local residents, regardless of immigration status. Know Your Rights workshops are scheduled and hosted by nonprofit and other community-based organizations. To learn about upcoming workshops, contact the Office of Communit Affairs at at immigrantservices@smcgov.org or 650-363-4194.
