42nd Annual Art & Wine Festival

The Annual Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival presented by EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure and SVP, returns to Central Park, 909 Kiely Blvd. for an exciting weekend of fun on Sept. 14 and 15. Stroll the park and enjoy incredible artwork by talented vendors, groove to the music, and indulge in some delicious food selection. This family-friendly event offers a Kids Kingdom with fun activities for children of all ages. For the adults, the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation will be serving exceptional wine and frosty craft brews all weekend long! Santa Clara Vision Zero

*Santa Clara Vision Zero Plan Efforts Begin*

Do you have concerns about traffic safety in Santa Clara? The City wants to hear about the safety challenges you experience while driving, biking, walking, and/or using other transportation modes within Santa Clara. The City recently kicked off the Santa Clara Vision Zero Plan effort with a target to reduce and help eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries on city streets. The goal is to make Santa Clara streets safer for all roadway users. The City is developing a community survey and will host workshops to gather feedback. This project is funded by a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant and City funds.

Magical Bridge Playground
Magical Bridge Playground in Central Park is Now Open

Come out to Central Park and experience the City’s newest park amenity – the Magical Bridge All-Inclusive Playground. This multi-generational space has been thoughtfully designed to ensure guests of all ages and abilities experience the magic of play, community connections, and belonging. Magical Bridge Playgrounds are universally designed to improve the physical, social, emotional, and mental health of everyone in a community, regardless of age or ability. The City of Santa Clara is proud to join cities across the Bay Area in promoting socially inclusive and physically accessible playgrounds in City parks. Playground parking is available in the Pavilion Parking Lot.

$5,000 Trade School Scholarships Available

Silicon Valley Power offers a scholarship program designed to help income-qualified Santa Clara residents learn the skills to earn a livable wage while pursuing high demand careers in the energy industry. Scholarships are available up to $5,000 for eligible customers currently enrolled in the *Financial Rate Assistance Program [ https://www.siliconvalleypower.com/residents/payment-assistance ]* who meet all program requirements.

Examples of eligible trade school programs include:

* Solar PV system installer
* Generation technician
* Lineworker
* Building controls technician
* Plumber

Coastal Cleanup

*Coastal Cleanup Day: *Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon is California Coastal Cleanup Day! Volunteers throughout California will work together to help protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from trash and debris. During last year’s event, over 600 pounds of trash was collected in Santa Clara. The City will be hosting a cleanup site. Bio Blitz Park Pollinators

*Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz at Everett N. Eddie Souza Park: *Join us on Sept. 28, from 9:30 a.m. to noon for the “Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz” – an event where community members take photos of the wildlife in Everett N. Eddie Souza Park.  These photos will be collected and used to inform educational programs about our biodiversity. Your participation in this event will help us understand how to protect pollinators and other important wildlife in our community. *Santa Clara Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Fall 2024 Classes: *Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) teaches residents how to be self-sufficient after a major disaster by developing a core of citizen responders trained in basic emergency skills. The 21-hour academy includes classroom and hands-on training on topics such as earthquake awareness, utilities shut-off, fire extinguisher use, disaster medicine, triage, assessment of minor injuries and burns, and light search and rescue techniques. The next CERT academy begins on Oct. 28 and is open for registration at *SantaClaraCA.gov [ https://www.santaclaraca.gov/our-city/departments-a-f/fire-department/community-resources/cert-community-emergency-response-team ]*.

Senior Center Activities

*Learn How to Identify and Report Scams: *Have you or someone you know been a victim of a scam? Join the Santa Clara Senior Center and the Santa Clara Police Department in an interactive workshop on how to identify scams on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 9 - 10 am. During this in-person, fraud seminar presented by the Santa Clara Police Department, individuals will learn how to identify and report scams to the appropriate authorities and be given resources to help minimize the impact of falling victim to a scam. *Bean Bag Toss Tournament: *The Senior Center is excited to be hosting a Bean Bag Toss Tournament for adults ages 50+ (aka Cornhole) for adults ages 50+ on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. All levels are welcome. *10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s (In Mandarin): *The Senior Center will host an informative meeting on the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Alzheimer's disease and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking and behavior that affect daily life. Join us to learn about 10 common warning signs and signs to look out for in yourself or others. This hour-long talk covers typical age-related changes, warning signs of Alzheimer's disease, how to talk to others about memory concerns, early detection, the benefits of getting a diagnosis and the diagnostic process, and Alzheimer's Association resources.
