City Council Reorganization
Swearing In CC Mtg 1_14_25
Two new members of the Mountain View City Council – Chris Clark and John McAlister - were sworn in, along with two returning members, Emily Ann Ramos and Pat Showalter, at the Council’s first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Margaret Abe-Koga and Lisa Matichak, who termed out of office, were thanked for their eight years of service on the Council. Abe-Koga is now serving as the Santa Clara County District 5 Supervisor.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Council also elected Ellen Kamei as Mayor and Emily Ann Ramos as Vice Mayor. A third generation Mountain View resident, Mayor Kamei was elected to the Council in November 2018 and re-elected to her second term in November 2022. She previously served as Mayor in 2021 and Vice Mayor in 2020. Vice Mayor Ramos was appointed to the Council in January 2023 and elected to the Council in November 2024.
Both Councilmembers Clark and McAlister previously served on the Council, having first been elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. Clark served as mayor in 2014, and McAlister served as mayor in 2015. Showalter, who passed the gavel to Mayor Kamei, served as mayor in 2024 and was re-elected to the Council in November 2024.

MVFD Assists in Battling LA County Fires
MVFD LA Fires
Mountain View Fire Department's Engine 152 deployed last week with a team of four firefighters as part of a task force to the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County. They have completed numerous missions, including successfully protecting and preventing a middle school from burning.
After nearly a week of wind-fueled wildfires throughout Los Angeles County and the surrounding areas, over 38,000 acres have burned in the Eaton, Palisades and Hurst fires combined, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection [ https://www.fire.ca.gov/ ]. More than 12,000 structures have been destroyed.
To help those affected by the wildfires in Southern California, the City of Mountain View has compiled a list of organizations you can visit that could use your donations: Support Southern California Wildfire Victims [ https://www.mountainview.gov/Home/Components/News/News/998/284 ].

City Secures FEMA Reimbursement
for COVID-19 Costs
COVID-19 Check-in
The City of Mountain View successfully secured reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to cover costs incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reimbursement, totaling nearly $632,000, was primarily related to the following expenditures:
* Supplies and commodities (i.e., personal protective equipment such as face masks and safety goggles as well as materials such as sprayers, thermometers, and blood pressure cuffs).
* Staff time spent in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
* Electronics and related software/applications to conduct EOC operations over and above standard operating protocols.
* Signage and installation and placement of signs within park facilities.
* Labor costs for the vaccination center at the Mountain View Community Center.
* City of Mountain View Fire Department personnel overtime costs.
Working to secure these reimbursements highlights the City’s commitment to addressing the financial challenges of the pandemic, ensuring City services remained operational and supporting the health and safety of its residents.
