Saturday, March 22: World Water Day

This year’s theme, Glacier Preservation, brings attention to the important role glaciers play in our global community.

Save Our Glaciers logo for World Water DayBecause of climate change, we see glaciers melting faster than ever. Continually changing meltwater flows contribute to floods, droughts, landslides and sea level rise. Communities worldwide and their ecosystems face devastation. This year’s campaign focuses on working together to reduce carbon emissions, preserve glaciers and tackle the global water crisis.

We can face the challenge:


* *Go organic in the home and garden:* reduce pollution from petroleum-based products—switch to organic, biodegradable home and garden products
* *Be electric:* switch to electric appliances, lawnmowers and garden maintenance tools to reduce dependence on natural gas and polluting 2-stroke engine equipment
* *Avoid artificial:* plant living groundcovers that naturally support our ecosystem and keep our water supply and air clean

Less than 3% of the Earth’s water is freshwater and nearly 70% of that is frozen in ice caps and glaciers. Help keep our freshwater clean by doing your part!
