Labor Union Update
In spring 2025, the City initiated labor negotiations with all nine employee bargaining units following the conclusion of three-year agreements. Periodic updates have been provided over the past six months, and we are pleased to report that the City has successfully concluded negotiations with the final remaining groups. The agreed-upon 1.3% cost-of-living adjustment and other benefits will be incorporated into the current fiscal year budget, which will be presented to the City Council in February 2026. Negotiations for new contracts with all labor groups will commence again in the spring. The City appreciates the community’s interest in this matter and remains committed to fair, transparent, and fiscally responsible labor negotiations. Once finalized, the updated Memorandums of Understanding with each bargaining group will be posted on our *website* [ https://www.fremont.gov/government/departments/human-resources/memorandums-of-understanding ].

H Mart is coming to Pacific Commons Shopping Center with a new 100,000+ square feet flagship store, featuring an expansive grocery experience, a food hall, and dine-in restaurants. This project represents the largest investment in H Mart’s history and will be the brand’s largest store in the US. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026. Traces of Light and Stillness: New Exhibition at Olive Hyde Art Gallery
The City of Fremont’s Olive Hyde Art Gallery is proud to present Traces of Light and Stillness, an exhibition showcasing atmospheric landscape paintings by Victoria Veedell.
With her collection of oil paintings, Veedell invites us to “slow down, look inward, and experience the quiet rhythms of the natural world”. Her paintings are inspired by real places but move beyond representation into atmospheric “meditations on memory, mood, and the traces of stillness,” harnessing soft light and utilizing it as a language of emotion. Paths and waterways appear throughout this body of work as a metaphor for our introspective journeys. In a fast-paced world, her collection offers peaceful respite – a “space to linger, to breathe, and to rediscover the quiet power of stillness and light.”
Exhibition Dates
*Virtual Exhibit*: January 15 – March 14
*In-Person Exhibit*: January 22 – March 14
*Opening Reception*: Friday, January 30, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Admission to the gallery, receptions, and events is always free and open to the public.
