South San Francisco Promotes Devin Flannery as Deputy Fire Chief

Email from City of South San Francisco Chief Flannery will assume his new position later this month PRESS RELEASE Wednesday, March 12, 2025 South San Francisco Promotes Devin Flannery as Deputy Fire Chief Veteran Firefighter Brings Over Two Decades of Experience and Leadership to the Role   SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 12, 2025 – The City of South San Francisco is pleased to announce the promotion of Battalion Chief Devin Flannery to the position of Deputy Fire Chief. Chief Flannery brings more than 22 years of dedicated service to the city, with prior fire and EMS experience in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties. Throughout his tenure, Chief Flannery has served in multiple roles, including Paramedic Firefighter, Captain, and Battalion Chief. Most recently, he managed the department’s Training Division, where he developed its first comprehensive annual training plan. His latest assignment involved overseeing "A-Shift" operations while also managing the department’s apparatus and equipment budgets. "Chief Flannery’s dedication, expertise, and leadership have been instrumental in advancing our department’s training and operational readiness," said Fire Chief Matt Samson. "His commitment to excellence and continuous learning makes him the ideal choice for Deputy Fire Chief, and I am confident he will help lead our department to new heights." Chief Flannery has played a vital role in strengthening department programs, particularly in hazardous materials response. His commitment to professional development is evident through his extensive education, including a doctoral degree in adult learning from the University of Southern California. His knowledge and leadership will be invaluable as he steps into this new role. Chief Flannery will assume his new position later this month.
