Centerville Complete Streets Project Starts Construction

Last week, the City's contractor began on-site construction preparation work to improve portions of Thornton Avenue, Fremont Boulevard, and Peralta Boulevard in the Centerville area. This $11.5 million grant-funded project, along former State Route 84, will be under construction during the next year and includes significant work within the Centerville business district (on Fremont Boulevard from Thornton to Bonde) and at the frontage of Thornton Middle School. The scope of work includes pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk and bikeway improvements, upgraded traffic signals, new traffic signal at Thornton/Oak, and new pedestrian crosswalk flashing beacons on Fremont Boulevard at Artist Walk and at Centerville Train Depot. Construction will be managed to minimize impacts to the businesses, school community, residents, and commuters in the area. For example, new and improved sidewalks near Thornton Middle School will be constructed during the upcoming summer break. Visit our *project webpage* [ https://www.fremont.gov/government/departments/public-works/public-works-projects/centerville-complete-streets ] for current information about construction activities, schedules, and to sign up to receive regular e-mail updates about the project.
