MOODY'S AFFIRMS SUNNYVALE'S TOP-TIER 'AAA' CREDIT RATING, CONFIRMING CITY'S STRONG FINANCIAL HEALTH

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – For the first time since 2021, Moody’s Ratings has conducted a full review of Sunnyvale’s finances and reaffirmed the City’s "Aaa" issuer rating. This is the highest possible credit score a city can receive, signaling that Sunnyvale is in strong financial shape. Along with this top score, Moody’s also reaffirmed "Aa1" ratings for the City’s water and wastewater systems and lease-revenue financing, noting that the outlook for all City funds is stable.

This high rating is a result of Sunnyvale’s robust and growing local economy. Moody’s also pointed to the City’s strong reserves, supported by a diverse revenue base and prudent fiscal management. The report also praised the City for keeping its debt levels manageable while still investing in major community improvements, such as the Sunnyvale Cleanwater Program [ https://www.sunnyvalecleanwater.com/ ] and the newly completed City Hall.

"This Aaa rating—our first from Moody’s in five years—is a clear win for our residents," said Sunnyvale Director of Finance, Matthew Paulin. "Because we have a history of managing our budget carefully, we can fund these vital projects at the lowest possible interest rates, saving our residents money in the long run."
