Get set for a frightfully fun afternoon! Silicon Valley Power is proud to present the annual Children’s SpooktaClara Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 12–4 p.m. at Central Park, 909 Kiely Blvd. Dress your little ghosts and goblins in their favorite costumes and join us for games, crafts, a festive pumpkin walk, and Trick-or-Treat Row presented by EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure. This free event is perfect for children ages 10 and under.

Halloween Home Decorating Contest

The annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest is back! The deadline for submissions will be Monday, Oct. 27. More details about when the contest opens and how to sign up will be coming soon to santaclaraca.gov/contest.

Minimum Wage

Starting *January 1, 2026* the City of Santa Clara’s minimum wage will increase to *$18.70 per hour*.


* All employers doing business in the City of Santa Clara will be required to pay each employee who performs at least two hours of work a week at least *$18.70 per hour*. 
* The City’s minimum wage is adjusted annually based on the regional consumer price index.
* Employers are required to post a notice at the workplace of the current and prospective minimum wage rates and the employees’ rights under the City’s Minimum Wage Ordinance.

The 2026 Minimum Wage Posters for the workplace will be available by *November 1, 2025* at santaclaraca.gov/minimumwage [ https://www.santaclaraca.gov/business-development/business-services/minimum-wage-ordinance ].

$5,000 Trade School Scholarships Available!

Fall registration

Silicon Valley Power offers a scholarship program designed to help income-qualified Santa Clara residents learn the skills to earn a livable wage while pursuing high demand careers in the energy industry. Scholarships are available up to $5,000 for eligible customers currently enrolled in the Financial Rate Assistance Program [ https://www.siliconvalleypower.com/residents/payment-assistance ] who meet all program requirements.

Examples of eligible trade school programs include:


* HVAC technician
* Solar PV system installer
* Generation technician
* Lineworker
* Building controls technician
* Plumber
* And more!

To conserve California’s finite drinking water resources, the State passed AB 1572 [ https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1572 ] that prohibits using drinking water to irrigate non-functional turf (decorative grass) for Commercial, Industrial, Institutional (CII) and Homeowners’ Association properties, phasing in January 1, 2027. This October 16, commit to keeping our drinking water clean:


* *Switch to organic and plant-based products that biodegrade naturally*. Conventional products contaminate soil and water; petroleum-based products damage aquatic ecosystems.
* *Avoid PFAS.* Toxic “forever chemicals” show up in water repellant, non-stick products, food packaging, cleaning products and most artificial turf. Not yet detected in the City’s water supply, minimizing PFAS products decreases their potential to leach into our drinking water.

Nearly a million Californians lack access to safe drinking water. We’re fortunate to have clean, reliable drinking water at the turn of the tap.

In celebration and recognition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Mission City Memorial Park is partnering with the Library for a special evening featuring a community ofrenda, storytelling, hands- on crafts, and a showing of Disney Pixar’s Coco (PG). In theme with the movie’s story about family, our connections to those who came before us, and the importance of remembering them, this event aims to share uplifting children’s activities and offer an opportunity to learn about Dia de los Muertos. Our top priority is that everyone stays safe and respectful, and the movie will be shown in the open “Evergreen Section” of the cemetery that does not house graves.

Environmental Day - Free Recycling Event for Residents Only

Recology South Bay is hosting an Environmental Day for Santa Clara residents on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1675 Rogers Ave. [ https://goo.gl/maps/WvESFCMJXpfktBocA ] in San Jose from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Environmental Day is designed to promote recycling, reuse, and diversion of usable materials from the landfill. Residents are invited to bring the following accepted materials: 


* Documents for confidential shredding (limited to two banker-sized boxes) 

* E-waste (computers, monitors, printers, etc.) 

* Universal waste (batteries, cell phones, CFLs and fluorescent tubes) 

* Clothing and shoes (in good condition for donation) 

Residents *must* provide a current utility bill and personal identification to verify eligibility. No appointment required. Contact Recology South Bay at 408-970-5100 for questions.

Free Disposal Day

Free Disposal Day

Santa Clara’s next Free Disposal Day takes place on Saturday, October 18, from 6 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Mission Trail Waste Systems (MTWS) Transfer Station. This event offers residents a convenient way to dispose of bulky items such as appliances, e-waste, mattresses,  furniture and more at no cost. Appointments are required and can be made by calling MTWS at 408-727-5365. Space is limited. Proof of residency (a utility bill or Driver’s License) is required and participants are responsible for unloading their own vehicles.

Every second Sunday, Eddie Souza Community Garden invites gardeners of all levels to connect, share, and grow together! This free, family-friendly event celebrates the spirit of community through exchanging seeds, seedlings, recipes, garden stories, and more. Each month features a highlighted discussion topic, but all plants and ideas are welcome. Bring what you can—saved seeds, compost, cut flowers, fresh herbs, bulbs, jams, or even just your questions and curiosity. $25,000 Energy Efficiency Grants Available for Homeowner’s Associations
Homeowners Association

Silicon Valley Power offers a grant to help Homeowner’s Associations (HOAs) improve energy efficiency in their community’s common areas. Grants of up to $25,000 are available to eligible HOAs located within the city of Santa Clara. A 20% copayment is required.

Typical projects include upgrading hardwired lighting fixtures, such as exterior building lights, bollards, and parking lot lights, as well as interior fixtures in common areas such as clubhouses or recreational rooms. More efficient pool pumps can save significant energy and may also qualify. If you live in a condominium complex, talk to your HOA board or property management firm about applying for this grant to upgrade your common area facilities to improve energy efficiency and reduce electric utility costs.
