Tuesday, May 19, 2026: Cuesta Water Main Incident

Boil water restrictions lifted for remaining 21 homes along Drucilla Drive and Carla Court

*Boil Water Restrictions Lifted for Remaining 21 Homes
*On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19, the City of Mountain View, in coordination with the California State Water Resources Control Board, lifted the “Boil Water” notice for the remaining 21 homes impacted by a water main contamination breach, north of Cuesta Park.

The water line serving these homes has tested clear of coliform bacteria in two consecutive sampling events, as required by the State Water Board. Households are advised to flush their household plumbing, following instructions included in the “Termination of Boil Water Notice [ https://www.mountainview.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/13297 ].”

The City is providing plumbing services for those who need assistance with the flushing process. If you need assistance, please email WaterQuality@mountainview.gov or call 650-903-6081.

Earlier this month, on May 6, a “Boil Water” notice was lifted for 46 of the original 67 homes impacted by the Cuesta water main breach.

*Update on Emergency Water Supplies, Temporary Lodging Program, and Per Diem Payment for Meals and Incidentals
*Bottled water delivery for these 21 homes will continue through Wednesday, May 27, with extra days provided to ensure a smooth household transition. If residents are ready to discontinue water delivery sooner, they should call Water World at 408-641-5440 to cancel the service before placing all empty bottles out for pickup. If residents place bottles out without canceling, Water World will continue to exchange empty for new bottles until Wednesday, May 27.

The City will continue to provide temporary lodging, meals and incidentals per diem payments, and shower resources for the affected households in these 21 homes through Wednesday, May 20 (hotel checkout available through Thursday, May 21).

On Friday, May 22, the City will issue the final check for affected residents’ per diem payments for meals and incidentals. These checks will be available for pickup at the Finance and Administrative Services Department, 2nd floor, at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.

*Neighborhood Infrastructure Restoration
*The 21 households have been reconnected to the water main. Starting tomorrow, temporary above-ground pipelines will be removed, followed by the restoration of roadways and sidewalks.

*About the Water Main Incident
*The water main breach involved a private contractor that was hired by the City. The Friday, April 24, incident concerned a contamination breach with some cement slurry mix coming into contact with a live water main near the intersection of Bonita Avenue and Cuesta Drive.
