Summer Reading Program 2026





Unearth a Story Poster

Teens (grades 6 to 12) will receive a brand-new, free paperback book when they sign up for the Summer Reading Program from *June 1 to August 31.*

 

Once signed up, go to the Children’s Information Desk for your free book. Readers who finish the challenge by reading *three books or 180 minutes* (1 hour counts as 1 book) are entered into a drawing for a grand prize! The more books or minutes you read, the more chances to win!

 

Additionally, complete activity badges to earn extra chances to win a grand prize!

Teen Librarian Gigi will teach you the basics of sewing with a machine, and you'll have the opportunity to make a drink bag to take home. A variety of fabric will be available to choose from, or you can bring your own.

Drop in each week for a different activity for teens. This week we will be creating our own squishies out of memory foam and puffy paint. Participants will design, cut and paint their squishy, and then take it home with them as a fun stress reliever!

Old school video game- Highway Rush Pro
Intro to Game Development

*Grades 4 to 8*

Learn the basics of programming through this fun introductory workshop! Students will use block code to explore key coding concepts which are applicable in the real world while to building their very own video game.

 

This program is hosted by the FHS Hack Club, a high school coding club based out of Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. We believe that computer science education should be available to all, and work to encourage young people to discover the joy of code by creating projects they are proud of.

 

Participants should bring a laptop if possible. Please register below to request a library laptop for use during the program.

The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library is hosting a two-day book sale. Join us in the Library Program Room, where you will find books for children and adults, movies on DVD and Blu-Ray, and music CDs. There will be items in English as well as other languages.

 

*Sunday is a $5 Bag* *Sale*, where you buy a bag for $5 and fill it with what fits. While the Library opens at 1 p.m., the Bag Sale begins at noon. Only the Book Sale will be accessible from noon until the Library opens at 1 p.m. 

 

All sales help sponsor library programs and promote literacy. We accept multiple forms of payment, including cash, checks, credit and debit.

 

Become a member at the sales. Membership is $10 for individuals per year. Become a Life Member for $200. Membership fees are tax-deductible.

Teen Tuesday: Learn to Crochet

Drop in each week for a different activity for teens. This week, learn to crochet for complete beginners with Monta Vista's crochet club! Absolutely no experience is needed to come join us. We will be learning some foundational stitches,  and making your very own crochet bow paperclip. All materials will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Those with prior crochet knowledge are more than welcome to join as well and spread the joy of crochet to everybody!

 

 Registration is required, as supplies are limited. Walk-ins are welcome subject to available space. Doors will close when the program is full.
