City Manager's Office Introducing My San Mateo: Your Portal to Request City Services The City of San Mateo has launched My San Mateo, a new app and website that makes it easier to connect with your City and request services anytime, anywhere. Report issues, track requests and receive updates in one place. My San Mateo allows residents to access information, submit service requests and follow the status of their requests. Community members can access My San Mateo through their preferred web browser on their computers or phones. iPhone users can download the My San Mateo app through the Apple App Store. Head West Marketplace Returns to Downtown San Mateo This Saturday, March 21 The City of San Mateo is pleased to welcome back the Head West Marketplace to downtown, bringing a vibrant mix of local makers, artists and small businesses to the community. Beginning this Saturday, March 21, the market will now be held on the third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (moved from Sundays) in the pedestrian mall on B Street between 1st and 3rd Avenue. Come out to this fun, monthly event to support local businesses by enjoying and to exploring downtown San Mateo’s shops, restaurants and public spaces. My San Mateo City Clerk's Office March 16 City Council Meeting Summary The following items were discussed by the San Mateo City Council on March 16, 2026. Special Meeting, 6 p.m. Study Session City Council Fiscal Year 2026/27 SMART Activities Priority List — Direction The City Council reviewed the proposed Fiscal Year 2026/27 SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) Activity Priority List. The Council provided feedback, discussed key initiatives, and emphasized the importance of strong community engagement. Staff will update the list based on feedback from Council, and it will be finalized and adopted as part of the City’s annual budgeting process in June. Regular Meeting, 7 p.m. Ceremonial The City Council recognized the San Mateo AYSO Boys U14 Winter Select Team for ranking first place in the County this season. The City Council received a presentation from the At-Risk Youth Foundation (TARYF), a volunteer-led foundation which supports nationwide drinking and driving educational programs, and provides teddy bears to children affected by tragic incidents. The City Council received a presentation from the San Francisco Peninsula - the region’s official convention and visitors’ bureau - on their 2025–2028 Strategic Plan and priorities, goals, and community impact for the coming years. Public Hearing 2026 Solid Waste Collection Rates — Rate Increase The City Council conducted a public hearing on the 2026 Solid Waste Collection Rates, following the Proposition 218 process and discussed ways to expand outreach and keep the community informed. Staff was directed to explore potential financial assistance options for low and fixed-income residents and review models from other cities. The Council determined that there was no majority protest and adopted a resolution to establish maximum rates for solid waste collection for 2026. This action approved the full schedule of 2026 solid waste rates as presented in the Proposition 218 notice, which establishes maximum allowable rates based on service levels. New Business 2025 Annual Progress Reports – Housing Element, General Plan and Housing Successor Agency – Approval The City Council received a presentation from staff on the General Plan, Housing Element, and Housing Successor Agency Annual Progress Reports, which are due to the state by April 1, 2026. Council discussion included progress made towards the City’s state-mandated Housing Allocation (RHNA), progress on implementing goals and policies in General Plan 2040, and funding uses for the City’s Low-Moderate Income Housing Asset Fund. Following the discussion, the Council voted unanimously to direct the City Manager to submit the Annual Progress Reports to their respective State agencies. Charter Amendments — Study Session The City Council reviewed proposed Charter amendments focused on general updates and cleanup. Discussion emphasized improving clarity and flexibility in the Charter while maintaining transparency and effective governance. This item will be returning for two additional Public Hearings. On June 15, Council will consider whether to submit a ballot measure to the voters. Agendas & Minutes Public Meeting Portal Reminder: Enter the "I Voted" Youth Sticker Competition We’re partnering with our Youth Activities Council (YAC) to host an "I Voted" Sticker Competition! Three winning designs from different age groups will become stickers for voters at San Mateo Vote Centers during the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election. Competition Details: Must be 18 or under, living or studying in San Mateo Design must include "I Voted" or "Future Voter" Use the template to create a hand drawn or digital design Submit your designs by Friday, April 10, online, by email, by mail or drop off at City Hall. Learn more: cityofsanmateo.org/4758/I-Voted-Sticker-Competition Road Closures from CalTrans U.S. 101/SR-92 Overnight Ramp Closures on March 26 Caltrans has scheduled concrete placement work in San Mateo at the U.S. 101 / State Route (SR) 92 interchange to finalize the construction of the bridge deck, the structural surface that supports traffic.  The westbound SR-92 off-ramp to southbound U.S. 101 will be closed overnight on Thursday, March 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detour: Take the loop off-ramp to Delaware St, turn right on Concar, turn right onto South Delaware, merge onto eastbound SR-92 and access the off-ramp to southbound U.S. 101. In addition, the southbound U.S. 101 to Fashion Island Blvd. off-ramp will be closed overnight starting Thursday, March 26 at 11 p.m. and will open on Friday, March 27 at 7 a.m. Detour: Take westbound SR-92, exit at Delaware, turn right on Concar, right on Grant, left at 19th, and continue onto Fashion Island Blvd. This work is part of the $45 million U.S. 101- SR-92 Short-term Improvements Project that is co-sponsored by the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and City/County Association of Governments. The project will bring operational improvements, enhancement to local access, and promotion of economic vitality to the region.  All work is weather dependent. Please drive with caution.
