Local History of Women's Suffrage

Join us on Tuesday, June 24 [ https://mountainview.libcal.com/event/14241480 ] for an exclusive local history talk on women's suffrage in Mountain View presented by Mountain View Historical Association [ https://www.mountainviewhistorical.org/ ] president, Pamela Baird. Attendees will learn about the courageous, local women whose efforts helped pass an amendment to California's state constitution granting women the right to vote in 1911, nine years before the 19th Amendment enfranchised women nationally. This talk will present research gathered from the Mountain View Register-Leader newspapers at the Mountain View History Center [ https://library.mountainview.gov/learn/mountain-view-history/history-center-collection ], City archives, and other online sources.

Participants got a close-up look at succulents with Master Gardener Laura Westley, who discussed the varieties of succulents and how to care for them. Westley also provided a demonstration on how to refresh an existing succulent container after everything has grown out.

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, residents attended a special two-part local history talk highlighting the longstanding presence and contributions of Filipino communities in the Bay Area presented by Mel Orpilla and Robert V. Ragsac, Sr. from the Filipino American National Historical Society.

Residents spent a lively afternoon in Pioneer Park with the FivePlay Jazz Quintet, where all enjoyed an outdoor performance featuring original music and creative improvisation raging from driving modal jazz to Brazilian and Latin grooves to atmospheric misterioso.
