StopWaste Regulatory Fee [ https://stopwaste.org/regulatory-fee? ]
New StopWaste Regulatory Fee

Starting July 1, 2026, a new *StopWaste Regulatory Fee [ https://stopwaste.org/regulatory-fee ]* will appear on garbage bills in Alameda County, including Fremont.

The StopWaste Regulatory Fee is a small fee added to garbage bills to help fund required environmental programs to divert compostable and recyclable materials. Since the State provides limited funds to carry out this work, the new fee allows StopWaste to recover the cost of implementing these programs on behalf of Alameda County jurisdictions.

The new fee is designed to be small, proportional, and equitable, and the amount is based on account type and the weekly volume of garbage service. It will appear as a separate line item on garbage bills and will be collected by Republic Services on StopWaste’s behalf. The fee is separate from regular garbage service and does not change the service rate.

For most residential customers, the new fee will add 30 cents per month to the garbage bill.

For multifamily and commercial customers, the monthly fee is the weekly number of cubic yards of garbage service x $1.10 per cubic yard. For example, a commercial account that gets a total of 6 cubic yards of garbage picked up weekly will pay a fee of $6.60 per month (i.e., $1.10 x 6 cubic yards serviced weekly = $6.60 fee per month).
