Silent Book Clubs are catching on around the world, as a way to meet other book lovers in your area and read together in quiet camaraderie. Bring a book of your choice or choose one from the library's shelves. After an hour of silent reading, there will be time to socialize with your neighbors about what you've read or anything else.

IN PERSON: Bike Safety Information and Repair Workshop & Patch Party

*Saturday, June 7, 10 to 3 p.m.*

Is your bike in need of a repair or tune-up? Not sure how to tell if your bike is safe to ride? Need to patch your bike's inner tuber? Bring your bike to the Library Plaza!

 

Volunteers from Bike Sunnyvale (the local chapter of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition) will be onsite to teach the ABC Quick Check, share safety tips, give out bicycle goodies and answer other bike-related questions.

 

Professional bike mechanic Ryan Murphy will be available for advice and help with issues like changing a tire or adjusting gears or brakes. Assistance from Ryan will be first come, first served.

 

Bike Sunnyvale will also be throwing a Patch Party! You can learn best practices to repair your bike's inner tubes as well as take home extra inner tubes

Start your day with energy and intention in this dynamic all-level Vinyasa class. Designed for both beginners and experienced yogis, this practice combines breath and movement to awaken your body, calm your mind and set a positive tone for the day ahead. Expect a thoughtful sequence that blends gentle warm-ups, flowing transitions and strength-building poses, ending with grounding stretches and relaxation. Modifications and variations are offered throughout, making this class accessible and challenging for everyone.

 

Instructor Kourtney has been practicing yoga for over fifteen years. Kourtney trained through the Joy School at Breathe Together Yoga in Los Gatos and enjoys working with students of all abilities.

 

This class will take place in the Library Program Room. Registration is not required. Bring your own yoga mat and any props that may serve you. Yoga mats will not be provided.

In partnership with the Sunnyvale Urban Forest Advocates (SUFA), we invite you to an exclusive screening of the film, "Giants Rising: The Secrets and Superpowers of the Redwoods".

 

A journey into the heart of America’s most iconic forests, "Giants Rising" reveals the secrets, superpowers and saga of the redwoods—the tallest and some of the oldest living beings on Earth. Living links to the past, redwoods also hold powers that may play a role in our future, including their ability to withstand fire and capture carbon, to offer clues about resilience and even to enhance our own well-being.

 

Through the voices of biologists, artists, Native communities and others, we discover the scientific wonders of redwoods, our deep cultural ties to them, and efforts to help these iconic forests overcome the legacy of logging that nearly wiped them out. It’s a tale that offers lessons about resilience, and the promise of solutions that will help us all rise up to face challenges that lay ahead.

 

Following the film there will be a Q&A with David Cowman, Director of Land Stewardship with the Sempervirens Fund.

IN-PERSON: Movie Screening: The Goonies (1985)

*Sunday, June 8, 2 to 4 p.m.*

Relive a cult classic 80's movie! It's the 40th anniversary of the movie "The Goonies", and we are celebrating by screening the movie in the Library Program Room.

 

We will serve Pirate's Booty to enjoy with the movie and give out buried treasure to the first 40 people who arrive. Registration is not required. 

 

"The Goonies" is rated PG by the MPAA.
