Do you have a library card?

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! Many Library services are available to anybody, even without a library card. Your Sunnyvale Public Library card can be used at our Main Library on Olive Avenue, and will be usable at our future Lakewood Branch Library & Learning Center [ https://www.sunnyvale.ca.gov/business-and-development/projects-in-sunnyvale/infrastructure-projects/lakewood-branch-library ], now under construction. It cannot be used at libraries in other cities, although you can request materials from other California libraries through Link+ [ https://linkencore.iii.com/iii/encore/?lang=eng ].

 

As a department of the City of Sunnyvale, our Library is able to curate a collection specifically for our Sunnyvale community. We are also able to collaborate with other City departments on things like the Induction Cooktops [ https://sunnyvale.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S173C1899013 ] and sustainability programming [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/14959557 ] provided by the Environmental Services Department.

 

Every member of your family can have their own library card. There is no minimum age to have a card. Cards in the same household are not linked.

The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library's bi-monthly book sale will take place in our Program Room, to the right from the Library entrance. All sales help sponsor library programs and promote literacy.

 

Members enter an hour early on Saturdays. Membership is $10 for individuals per year, or $200 for a lifetime membership. Membership fees are tax-deductible.

 

Sunday is the $5 Bag Sale. Buy a bag for $5 and fill it with what fits.

Baked apple from Kosher Cooking

This year, Rosh Hashana begins Monday, Sept. 22. Join us in the Program Room for a lightly moderated discussion of death over tea and snacks. At a Death Café, people—often strangers—gather to discuss death. We invite people in all phases of life to come talk about death and dying in a supportive, unstructured way. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. This program is for adults only. Registration is not required.

Wednesday, Sept. 10, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Join us to learn how to actively listen to your children. In this session, parents will learn practical strategies to build stronger connections, encourage open dialogue, and help children express themselves confidently. Monday, Sept. 15, 7 to 8 p.m.

 

Join Shiveta Gandotra, PhD, LMFT, for an online talk exploring the psychology of screen addiction. Learn how smartphones, social media and gaming platforms exploit our brains’ reward systems and form hard-to-break habits. Participants will also learn strategies to reduce dependency, set healthy boundaries and help both themselves and their children develop a more intentional, balanced relationship with technology.
