Recap from Second Public Hearing held on July 7, 2026 

On July 7, 2026, the Fremont City Council held a second public hearing to consider a draft City Charter based upon the Charter Advisory Committee's recommendations and subsequent City Council amendments requested at the first public hearing on June 2, 2026. At the second public hearing, the City Council received public input and directed City staff to include a provision in the draft City Charter stating that the City Charter does not include the ability to impose a real property transfer tax. On July 28, 2026, the City Council will hold its third and final hearing to consider the amended draft City Charter and decide whether to place the City Charter on the ballot for consideration by the City of Fremont voters at the November 3, 2026, election.

Fremont Celebrates America 250 with a Concert & Drone Show

Fremont’s first-ever drone show brought a memorable evening to Central Park’s Lake Elizabeth on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as thousands of people gathered to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary at a special event presented by the City of Fremont and Fremont Bank.

The evening kicked off with the annual Summer Concert Series, presented by Fremont Bank, Washington Health, and Niles Rotary, featuring an energetic performance by the 925 Band. Families, friends, and music lovers filled the park with dancing and sing-alongs while enjoying sponsor booths, interactive activities, giveaways, and a variety of food from Food Truck Mafia.

Following the concert, the crowd gathered with excitement as 350 drones lifted into the sky over Lake Elizabeth. The choreographed display, designed by Creative Skies, illuminated the sky with patriotic imagery, dynamic aerial formations, and a special tribute to Fremont, creating an unforgettable finale as the night sky came alive above Central Park.

The City of Fremont extends its sincere appreciation to Fremont Bank for helping to make this special community celebration possible. As City staff continues planning future community events, we welcome feedback from event attendees to help us enhance the experience.

Critical Rebuilding Work on BART Tracks in Fremont

The City is sharing this message from BART regarding critical rebuilding work taking place in Fremont. BART is in the process of decommissioning and replacing the interlocking just north of the Fremont BART Station and south of Mowry Avenue. An interlocking allows trains to move from one track to another safely. BART is building sections of a new interlocking, disassembling the current interlocking, and using a crane to install the new sections on the trackway. Replacing the interlocking will help improve BART safety and reliability.

What to Expect

* Construction and use of a 250-foot crane in the closed northeast parking lot; for safety, the crane has lights at the top
* Around the clock, heavy construction beginning at 12:00 am on Saturday and ending at 6:00 am on Monday on the following dates: July 11–13, July 25–27, August 15–17, August 29–31, September 12–14, and September 26–28
* Noise from demolition work, excavators, rail grinding/cutting, welding, jackhammers, drilling, crushing and spreading rock, and other construction-related activities
* Large construction vehicles with backup alarms and horns
* Lights at night for safety
* Occasional work during the day and some weeknights through November 2026

Service Impacts

* There will be no train service between the Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont BART Stations on July 25–26, August 15–16, August 29–30, September 12–13, and September 26–27.
* Free buses will replace train service between Union City, Fremont, and Warm Springs/South Fremont BART Stations.
* No Green Line service on work weekends.
* Riders traveling to San Francisco can use the Orange Line and transfer to the Blue Line at the Bay Fair BART Station.
* Riders can expect delays of 30–40 minutes.
* The northeast BART parking lot will remain closed through February 2027.
* Other lots will remain open during construction.

Former Frys Site
New Industrial Facility Planned for Former Fry’s Electronics Site

Recently, a major step was taken to revitalize the long‑vacant property at the corner of Osgood Road and Auto Mall Parkway—43800 Osgood Road, previously home to Fry’s Electronics. With the Fremont City Council’s approval of a General Plan Amendment and a rezoning from Regional Commercial to Tech Industrial at the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting on July 7, the site is now poised for an adaptive reuse project that will transform the existing building into a modern industrial facility. This represents a key moment in Fremont’s continued growth as a center for high‑tech innovation and advanced industry. The 11.21‑acre site, inactive since Fry’s closed in 2021, will once again become an active part of the community.

The project is expected to attract a mix of businesses in advanced manufacturing, warehousing, and product distribution—supporting job creation and strengthening Fremont’s economy. The project will also provide public improvements such as new ADA‑compliant sidewalks, enhanced landscaping, and upgraded traffic infrastructure to improve both safety and accessibility in the area.

This project signals strong confidence in Fremont’s economic resilience and future growth, and the City looks forward to the project’s completion and the new opportunities it will bring to the community.

The *Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) [ https://www.bayren.org/ ]* is offering the *Efficiency and Sustainable Energy (EASE) Home Program [ https://www.bayren.org/ease-home ]* for income-eligible households in Alameda County. This program helps eligible single-family homeowners improve home comfort and lower energy bills with upgrades like insulation and duct sealing. BayREN covers 80% of project costs and manages the process from start to finish. Eligible homes must be built before 2010 and have a household income at or below 120% of the area median income. Free site visits are available to determine eligible upgrades and the scope of work before moving forward.
