"Mountain View, CA" — A Mountain View Police Department investigation has led to the arrest of a suspect responsible for a series of auto burglaries.

Since February 2026, the Mountain View Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) has been investigating a series of vehicle burglaries targeting parking lots at several high-tech companies in Mountain View and neighboring cities. The suspect primarily targeted work vans, gaining entry by smashing windows and stealing contractors’ tools and supplies, often resulting in losses of several thousand dollars per incident.

MVPD CSU detectives collaborated with other Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies, leading to the identification of 27-year-old San Jose resident Juan Gallegos as the suspect responsible for auto burglaries in Mountain View, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Milpitas.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, at approximately 2:27 p.m., Mountain View Police detectives, with coordinated assistance from the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCSET), located the suspect vehicle. SCCSET officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Gallegos in connection with prior burglaries in Mountain View.

Gallegos was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a series of incidents. The charges include multiple counts of burglary (PC 459) and multiple counts of criminal conspiracy (PC 182(a)(1)), as well as possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)). He was also charged with possession of burglary tools (PC 466), prowling (PC 647(h)), and possession of drug paraphernalia (HS 11364(a)). Additionally, Gallegos was booked for a parole violation (PC 3056).

MVPD thanks the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, and Santa Clara Police Department for their collaboration and assistance in this investigation.

As a reminder, if you witness an auto burglary in progress, call 9-1-1 immediately. To report suspicious activity, contact the non-emergency line at 650-903-6344.
