Happy Black History Month! Celebrate Black and African history and culture with author talks for adults and crafts and performances for children [ https://www.library.sunnyvale.ca.gov/events/seasonal-library-programs ]. Find recommended reads on our book displays in the Library.

 

This month we are also celebrating Lunar New Year. Observed in many Asian cultures, Lunar New Year celebrates the start of the year according to the lunar calendar.

 

Tax Day is April 15. This month, the Library is hosting two events with Tax-Aid to provide free tax help to households earning under $67,000 per year. Can't make those events? Our librarians can help you find other tax events nearby. Keep reading to learn more.

 

Mark your calendar for the first Saturday in March! Retro Roadshow will return to our Library with "Console Chaos" [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/15586495 ], a pop-up museum talk and exhibit of vintage video game consoles and history. Bring the family and get hands on with games from decades past.

Lunar New Year





Lunar New Year Sunday February 22
Sunday, Feb. 22, 1 to 4 p.m.

Happy Year of the Horse! Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the year in Asian cultures that traditionally measure months using phases of the moon. By the Chinese zodiac, this coming year is associated with the horse. Celebrate with crafts for all age groups and performances from Red Panda Acrobats and LionDanceME.

Registration is not required, but space and supplies are limited.

 

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place throughout the Library building. We hope to see you there!

Tax-Aid Free Income Tax Assistance

Thursday, Feb. 19, 1 to 7 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 21, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Adult Fiction Room

 

Tax-Aid is offering free income tax assistance at the Library for households who earn $69,000 or less annually. Bring your tax documents to get help from a tax professional volunteer. Assistance is first come, first served.

At this time of year, you may receive phone calls from strangers offering to help you with your taxes. When seeking tax help, only work with people and organizations you trust. If you are not sure whether an organization is trustworthy, ask your librarians at the Information Desk. They can help you look for red flags.

Experience Retro Roadshow, the Bay Area's premier pop-up museum of vintage technology!

 

This action-packed multimedia presentation dives into the multi-decade battle between video game companies vying to be number one. Following the presentation, you are invited to join the battle and get hands-on with a curated console collection including Atari, ColecoVision, Vectrex, Sega, Nintendo, Neo Geo, TurboGrafx-16, 3DO and more. Will you return to an old favorite or discover a previously-overlooked gem? The battle lines have been drawn and everyone who attends Console Chaos will emerge victorious!
