Celebrate the end of summer with a refreshing treat at our Summer Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 5, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in the Senior Center Courtyard. While you're enjoying your ice cream, stop by and meet our sponsor, Saratoga Retirement Community. Supplies are limited. Ages 55+ are welcome.

This will allow us to contact you if there is a program change. All workshops will be help in the Social Hall unless stated otherwise.

Arthritis is a concern for many older adults, often causing pain and stiffness that can make everyday movement difficult. While there is no cure, there are many effective ways to manage it. We will go over what exactly arthritis is and what we can do in terms of exercise, diet, and other strategies to continue with our daily lives. 55+ welcome.

Alzheimer’s disease causes changes in memory, thinking, and behavior that go beyond normal aging. Join us to learn about the differences between normal aging and Alzheimer’s, common warning signs, the importance of early detection, and the benefits of diagnosis. We’ll also discuss what to expect after a diagnosis, next steps, and available support and care resources. 55+ welcome.

Join a Doctor of Audiology and a Physician Assistant to learn about healthy aging and overall wellness. This interactive presentation explores the factors that contribute to quality of life as we age, including hearing health, communication, balance, cognitive wellness, and preventive care. Attendees will gain practical tips for staying active and healthy, and will have the opportunity to ask questions. 55+ welcome.

Indoor Dining

The Community Services Agency’s Senior Nutrition Program offers dine-in meals in the Social Hall of the Mountain View Senior Center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., sign-in starts at 11 a.m., and lunch is served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Social Hall closes at 1 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested for permanent residents 60+ of Santa Clara County.

*Lunch service is first come, first served and availability is not guaranteed.*

Movies are shown on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m. and on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. Join us for a screening in Multipurpose Room B.

Please note: Seating is limited to 36, and spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. When available, captions are provided.

Also, remember to dress warmly or bring a lap blanket, as the room tends to be on the cooler side.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for volunteers to serve as Front Desk Receptionists one day per week for a regularly scheduled two-hour shift, with a minimum three-month commitment. This is a great opportunity to interact with patrons, provide excellent customer service, and support older adults in our community.

Responsibilities include answering phone calls, scheduling social services appointments, and connecting older adults with important resources and information.

Pre-registration for Social Services is required and space is limited. Sign up in advance by calling the Front Desk at 650-903-6330 or stopping by in person.





Blood Pressure Management

Free blood pressure screenings are offered on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Social Hall. No registration required.

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) appointments are available at the Senior Center on the second Tuesday of each month from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. A volunteer counselor can assist with your health care options and rights. Pre-registration required, and space is limited. 






Apple Assist Test

Having trouble with your Apple device? Schedule a 30-minute appointment with a volunteer, available Thursdays in August from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Counseling Room, to get your questions answered. Pre-registration is required. 



aarp tax aide

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will offer Post-season tax appointments on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from May to October. Appointments are 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required.






SALA

Senior Adult Legal Assistance (SALA) offers free legal services at the Senior Center on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for Santa Clara County residents aged 60 or older. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. 



SECOND HARVEST

Free Grocery pick-up is the first through fourth Tuesday of each month, 8:30 - 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required. For more information, visit the Front Desk or stop by during program hours. Operated by the Second Harvest Food Bank [ http://www.shfb.org/ ].
