It's been wonderful seeing so many families at our Summer Reading events so far! There are still many more chances to come in for crafts, activities and celebrations this summer.

 

*Please note:*


* *The Library will close early at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.*
* *The Library will be closed all day on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.*

Many of our programs this month do not have registration. Space in our programs is still limited and the doors will close when the program is full.

 

For programs with registrations, we recommend arriving early. Registrants' spots are only guaranteed until the start of the program.

Summer Reading Program





Join Our Summer Reading Program

Join our Summer Reading Program from June 1 to Aug. 31! Sign up online and log your books, or pick up a print reading log at the Information Desk.

 

For Children (ages 0 to grade 5)

* Receive a brand-new, free paperback book after signing up
* Add your name to our Reader Wall in the Children's Room
* Read five books or 300 minutes (1 hour counts as 1 book) to enter our grand prize drawing
* Read more books or complete more activities for more entries in our grand prize drawing (Sponsored by the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library [ https://fotsvl.org ].)

 




For Teens (grades 6 to 12)

* Receive a brand-new, free paperback book after signing up
* Read three books or 180 minutes (1 hour counts as 1 book) to enter our grand prize drawing
* Read more books or complete more activities for more entries in our grand prize drawing (Sponsored by the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library [ https://fotsvl.org ].)


For Adults (ages 17 and up)

* Set your own goal! What number of books is challenging for you?
* Log at least 1 book by Aug. 31. Keep reading to reach your personal goal.
* Finishers will get a $5 gift card for the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library book sales. Visit the Library Information Desk in August or find us at the Sunset Movie Series to claim your prize.

Dash Robot Coding

Grades 2 to 5

Sunday, July 5, 4 to 5 p.m.

Participants will learn to code the Dash robot and participate in fun coding challenges. Due to limited robots, participants may need to work in pairs.

Intro to Game Development

Grades 4 to 8

Thursday, July 16, 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Library Program Room

Registration recommended

 

Learn the basics of programming through this fun introductory workshop! Students will use block code to explore key coding concepts which are applicable in the real world while to building their very own video game.

 

This program is hosted by the FHS Hack Club, a high school coding club based out of Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. We believe that computer science education should be available to all, and work to encourage young people to discover the joy of code by creating projects they are proud of.

 

Participants should bring a laptop if possible. Please register below to request a library laptop for use during the program.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Saturday, March 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (members only at 9 a.m.)
Sunday, March 22, noon to 3 p.m. ($5 bag sale)

The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library is hosting a two-day book sale. Join us in the Library Program Room, where you will find books for children and adults, movies on DVD and Blu-Ray, and music CDs. There will be items in English as well as other languages.

 

Sunday is a $5 Bag Sale, where you buy a bag for $5 and fill it with what fits. While the Library opens at 1 p.m., the Bag Sale begins at noon. Only the Book Sale will be accessible from noon until the Library opens at 1 p.m.

All sales help sponsor library programs and promote literacy. We accept multiple forms of payment, including cash, checks, credit and debit.

 

Become a member at the sales. Membership is $10 for individuals per year. Become a Life Member for $200. Membership fees are tax-deductible.
